A little glitch has me 99% done. I still need dichro to blend the diodes. Turns out the special dichro run works great to reflect 520nm and pass 638nm but....alas it absorbs 445nm like a sponge so I am looking for a pbs cube that is fullwavelength coated. I got some in a group buy a few years back but can't find them. If anyone has one I really need it to finish off this build.

I'm thinking I can roatae the diodes to get the polarization of the mixed red and green the same and then toss that into the PBS cube to blend in the 445nm. Believe me I have tried and NO dichro on the market will work for this. 520nm is right on the transistion for all the dichro in use. I didn't try the dichro in the DTR optics kit though and that might work.

Boy that nice minty green is nice though. I have done some modualtion tests with the green and red and they match rise fall times really well. I was able to do red and blue and they are pretty close but needed the stanwax card to match so I think with the stanwax/dz baord this will match up the rise fall times nearly perfect. Stay tuned but find me that cube if you have it in your stash please!

Ok here is where I am. I changed the order of the diodes so I combine red and green usuing the special dichro stock I had made (it blocked 450nm so could not do as I want). I am now using a pbs cube to add back in the 450nm. The modulation test with all three diodes is great. The rise and fall times are a very close match and the single mode beams are beautiful. I think I can put this build in the history books and enjoy it now. I'll take pic and postt he graphic output so you can see the diodes in action. 240mw out the from balanced white light. Plenty for the living room and looks like ion again with the real nice 520nm green. 532nm looks sooooooo yellow to me after wathing this new setup.

The only think left is testing miniture positioning mount to see what works best over time. Steve and logsquared are both sending me some mounts to try. I think I need a thicker base plate to keep the beams stable as a single unit.

I have to say I miss pcaom with ar/kr whitelight ion lasers. Nothing will ever match the quality of an intrisically aligned beam modulated by pcaom. I had high hope and it is close but....

Case closed on this thread. Myth busted all diode build is not pcaom ion quality.

Of course, the only way to get close to ion is to feed each color into a fiber optic so they propagate together, then will be like ion, otherwise as long as they are separate sources there is no no chance.

Brilliant-werk.. nice.. A thought (..sorry it's kinda 'late'... : Have you tried using a Pass R / Refl. G/B dichro - for actual Ions? ie: the ones used for doing Ar/Kr comboing? Since Ar has lines really-close to yer 515-520, and also, 457, I'd bet you could get really-good results with one of those dichros.. I do-have a couple, in-shop, I'd be happy to 'loan' ya, for testing (..sorry, don't wanna sell, need 'em.. and, if they test-out well, I can get you some of the same, locally, here - have a good-resource, certainly for 1 or 2, and I'm sure quite cheaper than any ChOEM or coating-house... fwiw, lemme know..

So, are you going to keep it and use it, sell it, dismantle it for parts, or...? Sounds like a very nice mini RGB source, all things considered.

this is my programming projector. I'm waiting for bills scanners and then I'll make a nice small shoe box size projector. What I really wanted was a fanless quite small high quality low power projector that would replace an ar/he pair. This does nearly that. Think about what I did. Not that I'm soo special just technology has done this. 240mw white light OUT THE FRONT! 12v 300ma! verses. 200mw passed through a pcaom then balanced leaving about 90mw out the front using 120v at 12a and a load nasty fan and a lot of heat and huge and expensive......but ohhh I miss the quality image.

Thanks for the dichro offer but the special dichro I had made is over 95% to combine the red and green and then passing through a pbs cube I lose only about 10% to add in the blue. Only change I plan to make is to replace the optics mounts and beef up the base plate.

Pictures of the beam and graphics to come. Got real world stuff to get done. Based on previous posts ..check back in a month.

Very good... I'll be pleased to see the results, I'm sure. I'd like to build something small and pretty with single-modes someday; your project is an inspiration. :-)

Ps just got logsquares mounts. Buy them is all I can say. They are everything I've been looking for. Stable, small, easy to adjust. And unlike a flex mount reversible. Love them love them love them!

    Kecked,

Where can you buy these mounts which are sooo great?

    Cheers
