Was watching back a recording of Download 2012 last night (Sky Arts - show 1 of 2) and they finished with Metallica closing their set with One (my fav track by them)
Surprised to see some lasers, 5 RGB's (by my count, the camera work was not very good at showing the whole stage 'spectacle', more close ups of James, Lars, etc) and 4 or so greens in the wings (I think they may have been 6W 'Blitz' units based on what I saw and what I know is available, and what Chase and Staus [who played the same stage] used on previous tour dates)
Show built really nicely with the track, good use of colours, and movement introduced, etc
Then it struck me that none of the beams were leaving the confines of the stage structure. Very clever zoning actually.
Having been to Donington Park a number of times to watch bike racing (its a race circuit) I realised this was probably because East Midlands airport is just over the fence, with the flight path directly over the track (see Google maps link). Its close enough that racers complain of lack of grip on the circuit, mostly believed to be unburnt jet fuel settling down over time.

Anyway, I thought it was nicely executed, and a good example of how you can do a laser show at a big festival, even with severe restrictions on where you can shoot them.
Don't know who opped the show, I know Coloursound have a load of the Blitzes, but not sure on the RGBs. Anyone know any more?
This was the best I could find on youtube, obviously the Sky footage was better, and you got more detail on the stage
