Question A few quick random questions

Trying to not start too many threads, so thought i'd combine.

    * Does anyone know of a good site to buy inexpensive, low power (<1w) analog diodes for an RGB projector?

    * Is it the laser driver or the laser diode or both that determine if it accepts an analog signal or TTL?

    * If it is just the laser driver and you already have TTL lasers, can you just buy a replacement analog driver?

    * Can the Riya multibus units actually control the lasers/galvos themselves, or are they just an ILDA interface from the computer?

    * Anyone know where you can buy pre-made metal cases to house a projector?

    1) There are many types of laser diodes and your question is vague. There are no inexpenive diodes in the 1w range except for the 445nm diodes. If you drop to 200mw or so there are many options. Narrow down your criteria including color, etc.
    2) When talking about diodes, it's mostly the driver that matters. DPSS lasers sometimes don't modulate well so some are only fit for TTL use. And some require a TEC driver. The lasers in my projector are all controlled with die4drives, though.
    3) Some of the RIYAs accept SD card memory. So, if you just wanted to project a logo or a looped animatoin they would do the trick. I never use that feature in mine, though.
    4) I have heard of some places but none are cheap. They aren't like computer cases where parts just drop in and fit. You'd still need to fabricate mounts for off the shelf projector cases so you don't get much by going that route in my opinion unless you just want something that is close to being certified.

    Good luck.

I'll take a crack at these:

    1) Try Winni at goldenstarlighting.com. Or Aixiz. There are a number of sources and it kind of depends on the quality you're looking for. On the higher end, Marc at CT Lasers can hook you up with Kvants or Viasho's or, Shaun from Ultralasers has pretty nice stuff from DHOM. Knowing where in the world you reside may help people give you good answers. You asked for inexpensive so Winni is a good bet.

    2) It's the driver. I don't believe the laser head knows any different.

    3) Quite possibly yes, you may be able to just replace the driver. Sometimes it's just a jumper or solder blob.

    4) I don't know much about the RIYA's but, I'm pretty certain they're just an ILDA interface. (Edit - Gary above had the better answer ^)

    5) Projector case... again depends on quality. Winni at Goldenstar has a great reputaion an a nice line of cases but on the cheaper side of things. On the high end go to One Stop Laser Shop in Florida and look at Fred and Amanda's LT's.

It is the driver that says if it is analog or TTL.

It is possible but it is not like changing batteries in your Remotecontrol..You have to adjust the new driver to the diodes.

It is just an Interface. You need a Software.

    Thanks people.

I'm from Australia/Melbourne, though I'm happy to purchase from the US.

After doing a little more research, I found the FlexMod P3, I'm going to order one and give it a go.

Also, Sweet that goldenstar website is great, going to order a case from there, thanks for the help

    About RIYA controllers:
Micro/Basic/Pro/OEM models support stand alone mode (translation shows from SD card without computer; automatic start translation after "power on"; control shows (32 banks*32 shows) via keyboard (all models). or via DMX-512 (Basic/Pro/OEM models))

I'm in Melbourne too (Port Melbourne) and have a fair amount of surplus that you might be interested in. For example, I have:

    New 30k scanners
    New 660nm diodes
    New 445nm diodes
    New Aixiz diode modules
New Mounts for Aixiz diode modules
New "Taggalucci" ILDA Breakout and Interlock Controller circuit
Used mounted 660nm and 445nm diodes ready to install in a projector
    Used FlexMod driver
    Used Projector Case
    Used ILDA breakout

These are the things I can remember off the top of my head. As I'm in Melbourne, you could save on shipping and I'd give you a good price to clear these out my workshop. I'm also happy to run you through projector design etc.

PM me if your interested to meet up and have a chat.
