Default Music making by plucking laser beams

Checkout this article on making music with lasers at " http://www.wired.com/news/culture/music/0,72141-0.html "

Reminds me a bit of another fellow (forgot name) who used laser gloves to reflect the beams back to photo sensors to make music.

Variations on this technology would be cool to form a band of musicians to rival the Blue Man Group.

The guy that used to do it was Jean Michel Jarre, this is his website.

Dont know if he still does it, he did a massive concert in Londons Docklands quite a few years ago that was with all the lasers.

Neat concept, but the "music" sounds like garbage. Of course, I've never been much of a fan of theremin music either, so there you go. (Color me curmudgeon, I guess!)

Now if you want to see something cool that is ALSO melodic, have a look at this animation. I was so amazed I went straight to the animusic.com site and bought both of their DVD's. Great stuff!

Lol yea I saw pipedream when it was put on an ATI video card demo for my Radeon 9800 pro about 2 years ago. Definitely very cool.

As for musical laser instruments; it's so fun to watch these people. Sometime in my life I want to try to build a laser guitar, but at the moment I don't have the funds to do so, and I'm not tearing apart any of my current guitars :P

If you liked the "pipe dreams" video from Animusic, you ought to check out their website. I was so impressed, I bought both of their DVD's. Trust me, it's great stuff! If you liked the old "Mind's Eye" series of computer animation videos, then these new Animusic creations are right up your alley. I think it cost me something like $34 for both discs, including shipping.

Believe it or not, I stumbled upon these guys by accident. I was browsing through Snopes.com, looking at the latest urban legends, when I found a clip of the "pipe dreams" video. It seems that someone was passing it off as a real machine. (Duh!) But the Snopes article had a link to the Animusic website, and the rest is history!

The music reminds me a little of the "Blue Man Group", but not quite so far out there...
