    Default What is this...

As the title states, what is this... I figured that I spend way too much time on eBay but also see a bunch of stuff I have no idea what it is, and usually someone here will know what it is. I'm opening a thread so I can post liks to stuff and hopefully some learned person here will explain what it is and maybe even someone will have a need for it. PM me for details on how to send me a finders fee.

First off, what is this... Laser Diode Driver Board... Please don't answer with that... I would, but I'm the dumbass remember.
    Love, peace, and grease,

    Ahhh easy...

Your right it is a laser diode driver

Plus it has on-board a TE controller as well..
I have a couple of these that I will use someday for something...dunno.
Anyhow... Not sure about that board but mine have a 5 amp diode driver
and a 3 amp TEC ..Both made by Wavelength Electronics.
They make good stuff if you need something (almost) ready to go..
Altho spec'd at 100khz modulation.. its not at 100 percent.
modulation range starts at 10 percent ending at 90 .
And as far as I can tell from my tests ..I didnt like the waveform at 30khz.
Didnt work too well for lasershow use.
This is OK for experimenting but may not be what you want.
Also..you cannot get inside these to mod them .

But the price is right , right now ..but expect it to go much higher

Yup it is a good deal, That is about $350 worth of goodies. If you can get it cheap go for it. Wavelength makes good stuff.

Lightbulb I know what this is... just wanted to share.

    Check this lil red out...

    http://cgi.ebay.com/3-watt-RED-laser...QQcmdZViewItem

I swear I have seen the "heart" of this "projector" posted somewhere on here. a 3 watt 629nm solid state laser... 10mm beam... That's like a finger... or a small maglite beam.

    Here is the post...

    and the thread... http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...ighlight=629nm

Looks like Kyle is the seller. Wonder why... If I had that much spare change, I'd buy it just to see what it would look like in person out side on a foggy night.

If you want to see a big beam, or at least read about one, check out the latest Popular Science. There is an article about a plane with a death ray laser. It has some lens that makes the beam about 10" wide (or maybe larger, I don't remember). It is supposed to be able to take out vehicles and stuff. It is mounted on a plane. Amazing.

That's a Hydrogen-Florine chemical laser, isn't it? Remember reading about it a couple years ago. They had it mounted on a 747, and though it produced an incredibly powerful beam, the HF gas that gets vented overboard while the thing is in operation was pretty darn nasty. Supposed to be testing it as an anti-ballistic missile defense platform... So now they want to use it to take out vehicles too, eh?

That system was built by Casey Stack, he offered me the diode for $2500 without the case, it is a 21 emitter bar that takes a lot of work to collimate. The final beam is 15mm 25mrad.

25mrad.... ummm the link that was linked to above of the photon lexicon post says its only 4 mrad.

    see the quoted part http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...9&postcount=12

But regardless it is beautiful. Something I noticed if you look at the picture of the fanning beams you can see some areas where the beam is in a pseudo tem01 mode- that was the first indicator that it would be hard to keep aligned.
