Are all PT* galvos the same?
I have a set of PT-40Ks that haven't been used in a while because I am putting them into my new build which is currently underway. My Y galvo is still smooth as butter but the X galvo feels very stiff. I have heard that this can happen with the chivos. Is there any way to loosen this up or is this a problem with inexspensive bearings that can't be fixed? I have an older set of PT-20Ks that don't have a home right now. The 20K galvos look identical to the 40Ks and the impedence on the 20 is about .15 ohms lower (more efficient, right?). I can't measure inductance because my meter doesn't have that ability. I am wondering if when these PT chivos are sold, the only difference between the 20K vs. 30K vs. 40K is the amp. Does anyone know if that is this is the case? If they are the same, I'll just switch it out and retune. If not, maybe it's time to break the bank and see if anyone has a used set of 6800s they'd like to unload. I am kinda done with chivos. I think Soforene said it best. If you buy cheap, you buy twice...
