..."using 2 highly visible red lasers (<5mW)..."
I see the flaw in their cunning plan right there !!

    Yeah! Excellent!
And what about to add a small pedal AC generator and a little kettle for hot water also??? It could be pleasant to drink a good hot black coffee when cycling and while you're watching a laser "bike-beamshow"!!!!

if the distance between car an bike gets to small.. the laser pops the car tires
It is a super dupper safety function. You can also adjust the color you like

I've seen them in use on San Jose Bike Party rides and they work amazingly well in the dark and dry. Whodathunkit!!! They get whacked out of alignment pretty easily though, and are more of a "feel good" device than practical safety measure (in my 40 year serious cycling opinion). Drivers generally have no idea where the sides of their vehicles are, and the time to see and figure out WTF those lines are just makes their approach more dangerous because of the added distraction (another opinion).

Those 2 lines remind me of the cross hairs on some 1980's video games.

Think it would make me more likely to aim for the cyclist not less!
