Centerline tracing in trace it by a PL user would be your best bet.
There is no freeware that does centerline tracing.

But don't expect it too look too good.
Tracing is often far from perfect/efficient

Trace It works only with Pangolin's hardware.(FB3,QM2000)If i know well.(I have the copy, but i didn't try it yet)
Lasercam(Dr.Lava) may can do the videotracing from screen(Pro version)
This is actually also not freeware and needs Pangolin QM board or other hardware.
    Check it out:

The pro version of lasercam costs $99 (with the function to export to screen). It works with most generic DACs but it also works perfectly fine without one, so you could use it to create ild files to put on an SD card.

That's why is a good choice.I'm think about to purchese it.
About a year ago i had a piece production DAC,that worked with the VST -Video tracing (directly from Medialas DL center).
Not was a baaad stuff, but it did not can capturing from screen, only from a webcam.

lasercam works great. i made the u2 video you linked to. the pro version can videotrace from screen and from an external webcam. you can save generate and save ilda files from it and use them in any ilda compliant laser show editor.

you do not need pangolin hardware to use it. i used an etherdream DAC (http://www.ether-dream.com/) in that video, but riya and many other dacs are also supported.

this was also made with lasercam.. i generated the abstract pattern with a processing sketch, then did a screen recording with lasercam. presto! awesome abstracts synched to music.

i'm happy to answer any questions you have about lasercam.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

But if i want to put out the laser projection directly from webcam-,i must have the compatible DAC.FB3/QS isn't compatible,as You said Swami.
I did take a look on the Etherdream DAC.looks so sexy, almost the same size than FB3QS board

that's correct. lasercam does not work with the FB3. pangolin has not released the SDK for QS/FB3 so no third party applications are compatible with it.

    Default Lasercam Results

    Hey Blacter,

This is an example of what lasercam can do with about five minutes of effort. The larger (second) file was cleaned up with ILD SOS, another fine product from Dr. Lava. I didn't actually run the files on a projector to check them out. Note that they were optimized for projecting at 28KPPS.

    Poffihunt.ild

    Poffihunt 2.ild

The settings in Lasercam can be adjusted with some additional time to optimize the results against your source file by compensate for brightness, contrast, desired detail, target scan speed, DAC limitations and a variety of other variables

    Cheers!

    I don't regret(right term?i don't know,my native language isn't english i hope you'll understand)Does not needs to be perfect(it is anyway)
Quickshow is far enough for me.I'm unable to take its all advantages.Simply the best for low budget laserist like me.More than...
and not for the last it is contains a simplified tracer that would be good for almost any -still-pictures to vectorize("laserize") them.I love the Quicktrace.
    Regards from Hungary
