Default Need laser with analog modulation

    I am confused dot ...

I thought I could just buy any laser and then use another circuit to control power to laser giving beams of different brightness.

Can anyone please recommend a cheap laser that can do such a thing? It needs to be able to blank very fast.

I am not too fussed about colour but green seems to be one brightest if that helps.

If you need blank very fast, Laser diode red or blue is your choose, green is DPSS, not as fast as red or blue.
    Laser-wave can supply:
    Green 532nm, 4W, 10W, 15W
    blue 445nm, 2W, 3.5W, 6W, 10W
    blue 462nm, 2W
    Red 638nm, 500mW, 1W,2W, 4W, 5W, 6W, 8W, 10W
All diodes, All optics, All mount, All laser base and housing for yourselves building lasers.
    Speical products, 532nm, OEM-V-SS, 4W, 98mm*46mm*48mm; OEM-H, 10W, 250mm*88mm*70mm

Hey jollymolly might help if you let us know what your trying to achive
    Then we can answer correctly

I am trying to make a laser video projector using a polygon mirror.
Need modulation of brightness to show greyscale bitmap images.

How many lines are you hoping to get ?
How did you plan on getting virtical resolution ?

If I find the unit similar to the one I am looking for then the Vertical resolution depend on the number of mirrors.
The horizontal res can be adjusted by software.

I am looking for a low powered laser that can be modulated (brightness).

What frequency do you need modulate at ?
Going to need a lot of mirrors at different and accurate angle then ?
Would not two octagonal bar code scanners mounted at 90deg to each other work with some clever timing?
Its going to be hard to find a scanner with every mirror at a different angle
I just manage crude raster scanning with my 40kps scan set

Yes I don't see why that shouldn't work but it will be a lot more complicated.
Another way to do it was to use a polygon mirror (not angled) + another mirror moved by galvo/stepper motor. However dealing with the flyback from bottom line to top line put me off.
If I used two orthogonal polygon mirrors wouldn't that give me solid square. no empty spaces between horizontal lines. I think it would be hard to setup it up perfectly.

BTW this guy seems to be able to do it with 30kpps galvos

Is it safe to look at laser through a sheet of paper.

Point it directly towards eyes with piece of paper between eye and laser.
