The laserscope is a fascinating piece of hardware. Here's my idea of a laser "show":

That thing sitting in room pumping out 10's of watts! I'll never get bored.

I think to most people as well, it's a lot more interesting than drawing pictures of "Zeus parting the clouds" on a wall.
obviously you've not used a high powered laser in your house and burnt holes in your:

    couch
the eeyore clock above the couch
    tv
    wall
smoke the dog's tail when the SO lets them in ignoring the big scary laser sign just as you hit the kill switch..
    countless other things.

and that's only with a watt or so. when you get into 10's of watts thing don't smoke and sizzle, they catch fire nearly instantly.

some dust from your house or a smudge on the optics doesn't make the output blurry, it cracks the lenses and can ruin your laser, or worse.

A KTP532, applied to a plasterboard wall 2 feet away quickly ablates (cuts without burning) a quarter sized hole cleanly into the wall in about 2o seconds. If you aim it at brick, it "cleans" and then "bleaches" the brick. And that was the uncollimated diverging beam out the fiber coupler @ 40 watts or so. Dick Anderson does/did a demo in which he pushes a medical fiber through a 2x4 wood block, across the 2" axis. I wouldnt want to be inmy living room with one, the leakage around the edges and up the nose hole of the safety glasses is scary!.

PS I think 532 green is a ugly color, long live 514 and 488!

the most impressive beam i've seen is a 60 watt copper vapor laser on the gold line, 578nm IIRC. Beautiful.

488 off of a high power argon is nice too. looks almost magical.

Actually I'm partial to the special optics required 578 nm yellow line from KR.

    I like a mix of 647, 488 and 578 I call Sunkissed Orange.
