    Default 532nm "module"

Any ideas what's inside? Can I use it for a scanner? I am trying to find good deal on 400-500mw 532nm.

    Welcome to PL....

A quick education in what to buy....

OK, to keep the terminology straight, in these here parts of T'interwebs, a Galvo "scanner" is what is in the attached picture.
Its what moves the mirrors around. We use the ILDA standard terminology around here to avoid confusion.

Your question is more likely "Can I use this laser to build a decent show PROJECTOR with galvo scanners in it?"

Yes, and no. Can you do a short laser show with that laser... Yes, Will you like it.... No.

Here is the gotcha from that auction:

Quote: "100 seconds on, 60 seconds off " This is a limitation of the design to conduct heat from the diode out of the package. That is bad for show use, but ok for a non-military pointer...

No matter how much you heat sink that, without some major re- engineering, its output power is going to drift all over the place, as much as 20-40 percent. For a good laser show, the laser needs to run all the time with no power drift. It also needs modulation for blanking in the graphics and beam effects... BEAM OFF in a laser show is just as important as BEAM ON.

So, its slow to turn on and off, and it drifts in power. It does not have good internal cooling, so its limited in how long it can stay on. It does not have a modulation input, so no blanking. It runs off a 3.7 volt bettery, standard power supplies are 3.3V and 5V, making it difficult to power off the AC line.

Yes, you could build something crude with it, in a hurry. Will you be happy with the results, most likely not....

I'm sure some one who has bought something small lately will chime in with something better, maybe from Axiz, CNI, or DHOM, or even (cringe!) O-like...

Save your money and buy a nice OEM/LAB packaged laser with analog, not TTL modulation. You'll be happier, it will last much longer, and be more suited to the purpose. Buy the biggest, brightest, green with the tigtest possibly low dvergence beam you can afford. Not a pointer module...

Hang around, not everyone here is as grumpy as me..

There is genuinely no point in buying that sort of thing when you buy a CNI 500mW MGL-H head and driver for under $300.
And I had 2 out of 6 of mine making almost 1 watt, and none less than 650mW.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

Me too confirm what Norty303 said.
My CNI 500mW MGL-H green module gives out 662mW (stable): more than 30% over the labeled specs.

my mgl-h 500mw gets close to 700mw easily and performs well under modulation

YES to norty--try winnie I 'think'

the highest analog 532 at AixiZ is just overspec 300mW--

another possible option with very high quality(read NOT cheap) are the labbies at jetlaser(dot)org- prices shown are close-out but by mentioning 'hakaw' you MAY get an even lower price.

be sure you make it clear that you need ANALOG modulation- my 1W is extememly stable and over spec. these have larger enclosures than we normally see-- so raed the dimentions so you will not be surprized by the size of both parts--JL is heavy on customer satisfaction-stands behind both product and warranty(6 mo) and the customer never pays for returned shipping.

btw I am an associate of both companies as well as a friend.. just to be complely upfront.

I got mine from Winni aswel , MGL-H but with a lab style power supply , im very very sure mine is rated way more than 500mW , bummer , I still wish I have a power meter :P
