    Default Is it pulsed

    Hi all,

A DJ friend of mine is looking to purchase a laser as an addition to his lighting setup.

As the laser will be on a lighting bar above the DJ (about 10ft of the dance floor) He is concerned that in sound to light mode the beams will enter the crowd, this of which he cannot control.

The laser is for sale is on Ebay and is descibed as a 60mw solid state green laser system.

I have read that a pulsed solid state laser should never enter a crowd (learning more everyday) so my question is do you think that this laser (more than likley from Asia)is solid state or a pulsed solid state.

    Any advice would be appreciated

This laser will just run in CW, not pulsed mode.

Pulsed lasers include the big Yags, and CV lasers.

I agree that it's not pulsed, but I'm not sure that I'd trust it in the audience even so...

Depending on the built-in patterns that the thing comes with, it might have a static beam (or slow moving one) that could still zorch someone in the audience. I know that the rules in the UK are different from what we have to deal with here in the US, but the damage threshold for the human eye is the same no matter where you are.

Also, there are other units that seem to offer the same (or better) functionality for a lot less money than this one. I've seen several E-bay auctions for dual-head 50 mw green projectors with DMX controls for around 150 UK pounds buy-it-now, so this one seems to be priced on the high side...
