Computer controlled laser pointer
Hey guys, I'm trying to find the most cost effective way to draw a complex curve using a laser pointer. Range needs are low. The line will occupy a stage no more than 48" long and 24" wide. It will have to project this from approximately 48" above the surface. It can be any cheap red laser. It needs to be able to draw the line fairly quickly. Ideally in such a way that the line appeared solid to the human eye, but this might be too much to ask. I imagine the line will not exceed a total length of 120"
This is my first laser project so any guidance is appreciated. Spoonfed answers aren't always the most helpful, as you know, so direction towards some good resources would be much appreciated.

Just to clarify, I suppose you could call it a laser drafting tool. User will input a vector file, and it will trace it onto the surface. I will handle all the programming etc, just trying to find ideas on available 'projectors' or DIY methods for this purpose. The closest thing I have found was the mosquito tracking system. That is essentially my needs for laser hardware except with low power red laser. I want to make sure it's as low risk as possible for those using it.
