What is the maximum deflection angle of a MEMS though? I though it was much less than 1 degree. If you could get 15 degrees out of one, then that might be worth looking into. (True, you'd still have the phasing problem though.)
The angle is +/-12 degrees and only 12 degrees. Apparently only two discrete positions are currently available.

Yes. Isn't this disgusting? The private sector struggles, D.C. is still expanding its real estate development. The highest per capita income in the US is in the D.C. area. The average income of federal employes is approximately double that of their private sector counterparts and worse than all that we may not get a DEMO!

Cambridge in its Show hayday usually sent two of the smartest, most beautiful, women engineers I've ever seen, plus one technician. If it was Canada, for LFX, we got the amp engineer too. Why? We threw one heck of a party, we had tech savy customers who were excellent at asking tough questions, and entertainment galvos sold like hotcakes. Plus Toronto must not be that bad a drive from the Boston area in summer.

Now, I'm not so sure we get honorable mention.

Just remember, for Fed employees, he possibly gets a double dip retirement. Unlike me where Social Security will "burn" my 9 years of state employee's retirement and send me the difference if I'm lucky. If it still exists in 40 years. I'm sure the retirement age will be north of 80 when I'm done. That alone would be reason to switch to government sector.

    Roughly:

Reduced inertia and enhanced stiffness for larger diameter beams.
Those go hand in hand with the tilted scan heads that reduce tangent distortion.

See the galvanometer scanner chapter in "Laser Beam Scanning" Edited by G. F. Marshall, Published by Marcel Dekker, Inc., Ny, Ny, 1991 ISBN 0-8247-7418-3
The galvo chapter was written by Dr Montagu, one of the founders of General Scanning.
It will give you the equations for mirror geometry.

While I would not pay for a new edition, a used book place might get it for you cheap.

    Thanks, mixedgas
It's an great information for me.

You are correct when you assume mounting the mirror sideways takes the inertia thru the roof.
