Default PC Touch Screen response time for Quickshow2?

Hello! First a quick hello- long long time lurker. My name is dan

2ndly thanks for being such an amazing and inspiring place Photon Lexicon.

Ok so I have a dying laptop PC(Win7) running Quickshow2 and was thinking of upgrading to a touch screen dell windows 8 laptop.

Does anybody have any information on latency issues on the touch screen panel vs using a midi controller?

I would like to get my system cues as fast+responsive as possible.

    Thankyou for your time!

    Dan

    Just found this thread.....

    - answers pretty much what I was after! Only question left is the response time I suppose?

    Thanks again!

I'd be very interested in hearing information about response time as well. Some of the new All-in-One Windows 8 PC's look like they could be great.

Response time, while I've not measured it quantitatively, is nothing to worry about for a tightly synchronised show.

I find my touch screen is more responsive than my midi controller. Really nothing to worry about and you soon learn to compensate for any latency.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

I've been using an old (2008) touch-screen with a positively ancient Pentium 4 desktop to run both LivePro and Beyond, and I haven't noticed any latency issues. I also run the Novation Remote Zero midi controller, and like Norty I have sometimes noticed a slight lag with that, but not enough to really matter.

I recently updated the PC to something a bit more modern, but I'm still using the old touch-screen without any problems. (I use a dual-monitor layout for Livepro, with the cue grid on the touch-screen and everything else on a separate monitor.)

I run pretty much the same setup as Buffo it seems, dual screen Livepro, Novation SLII.
A certain amount if the latency seems to come from the fact the button presses apply on the release of the buttons rather than the initial press.

Thanks - some good info here.
I'm umming and ahhing over getting a dedicated (for laser shows) 'all in one' touchscreen with a larger screen- say 20inches and up. There seems to be some interesting looking Lenovos for about 500 knicker that look like they could be good spec wise- I afraid of spending the cash and being stuck with a sluggish controller tho.
I weighed up ( slightly drunk on NYE I'll admit...) if it would be viable to sneak an install of QS2 in a demo array of some mega PC World type store ninja style and see what the response times were like over some various different brands, but it all seemed a bit too mission impossible....
Also is Lenovo a reputable brand - they seem to be fairly new(ish) to the uk? Thanks in advance.

I have an old 15" POS touchscreen from ebay, cost £30 I think, It has a nice heavy base plate so it doe's not move around, never noticed any delay problems, also using a Novation Zero on the midi. Sweet.
    Squat that bug,

One day I'll finish my build.

    Lenovo is fine.
Whatever you decide upon... A "laser only" laptop is highly recommended. I don't even connect mine to the internet.
