Default My Gold box. AKA ALE YD6-PC

    Greetings,

I'm looking for a bit of help.

I have a problem with my Lamp driver, pulled from a medical laser that I shan't mention the name of.

Anyway the thing is causing me a little depression, my controller (if that's what you can call it) appears to be wired correctly and I'm doing everything as per instruction (I'm applying 0.5v to pin 15 and then grounding pin 9) at this point I get nothing.. I'd hope for a pop from the spark gap.. but I get nada.. apart from a sad face and tear in my eye.

I've checked all the basics.. fuses, my wiring (countless times) and I get +15v on pin 12 so I know there is some life in the ALE.

This is where I stop.. I'm not up for poking around further in the ALE without specific instruction.. the caps.. they look like they could make me squeal / leave my kids without a Dad.

So - I'm wondering if anyone can suggest someone in the UK or Europe who repairs or can supply a suitable replacement.

Failing that - I'll send it to TDK-Lambda UK who will look at it / will fix it.. hopefully not making my eyes water in the process!

Any help or advise is appreciated.

    Cheers,

    N.

I know nothing about these, and I'm sure someone will have a better idea than me so I will shut up.

Sorry I mean are you sure 0.5v is enough on pin 15? only I found this on the net, 0 - 5V, Output current follows V
PROGRAM at 10 Amps per Volt.
    Squat that bug,

One day I'll finish my build.

pin9 should be grounded via a 470 ohm resistor, so it could be quite likely you have killed the optocoupler LED by not limiting current to it ..

MMM, 5A is a little low, 18-20A would be better, but the ALE should still try to ignite the lamp regardless..

    Dave,

    You have a YD-LS ??

Now this is where things get weird... because I've a different model.. and the manual for that model (although I and others have noted many mistakes in it) does not specify a resistor to ground. if thats actually what it is.. I'll be pissed!

I've followed this, as the other stuff relating to the YD-LS seems to be misleading.. (for this model)

It would be fairly easy to check without needing to power the supply up even.. I think its quite a high possibility that the supply you have is semi custom..

Yeah, I dunno about custom but it's different to the YD-LS enough (no lights on the front, no simmer control via the remote, Output voltage different etc.)

But! It's a great tip, I'll check the opto and replace if required.. (I have noticed that the opto is protected by a 470r on the power board.. but it's an obvious place to start!

    Cheers!

Thanks Steve.. I'd hate to think how much the air freight would be on an ALE. @750 I'd think I'd be able to buy a complete working one.. This economic climate yah know
