Question Help with current for reds please

    Hi all

I need help with, how many mA Max. can I put to the Mitsus PT73?
    I fry one already
I want to push this a little harder.
I already have two G71 running at 850mA and are fine.

    Thanks and cheers
    Eduardo

PS. I put mine in Daves Brass mount and a nice base plate at 1200mA
    and KAPUT

They are rated at 800mA... per the Data sheet....I would say that without TE....MAX @ 900.....With TE down to 5C...1000 to 1100mA MAX....My best quess....have not TE'ed yet !!!

Well....we now know that 1200mA is TOO MUCH !! Not really suprised about this...I assume you were NOT TE cooling this failed P73 !! How much time @ 1200mA before failure ???

    LAter...BEAM

Note...ANY overdrive may cause premature diode failure. so...too much juice...may cook your goose !! hahaha

    Hi Beam

    Thanks for the info.
    And the cooking recipe
And no, I'm not TE just a fan and plenty of alu.
    So 900mA it is.
And the time, works fine when connected to DAC. (around 10 min.) but (this is the stupid part).
I try to measure output so I put 5 Volts input direct, and fine (10 secs). I put the DAC back and
    A UGLY LED I have.

    Thanks and cheers,
    Ed
    PS Output at 850mA = 550mW and at 1200mA = 750mW after optics and galvos.(more or less).
With correcting optics (Cyls. from Dave). and so so adjustment .

I pair the P73's I sell with drivers set to 880mA. I have heard of a few blowing over 1A. Funny thing is I have not heard of any G71's blowing with 1A-1.5A even though I don't suggest running them that high for wavelength and life issues. I have thought for a while the G71 is actually tougher than the P73 even though it is less efficient.

Sounds like you had an ESD EVENT.

    Hi Jordan

    Helpful info, thanks.
OK, so for the G71's how much mA is Max and safe?
Or point me to a link for a graphic or info if you please.

    Hi no-esc

ESD I don't think so, I put a Lasorb on it, but is possible, I think I killed with the current and CW.

    Thanks and cheers,
    Ed

    Hey Eduardo,

Is that 850mA each, I have a quad I built and I'm running each diode at around 500mA, just wondering if I can ramp them up a little

    Tony
    Squat that bug,

One day I'll finish my build.

If I understood the question correctly, you have destroyed one already and want to push it harder ?

You could try 40 amps, that will do it ))

On the other hand, if you do not want to destroy more reds, then best to stick with the datasheet recommendations or follow CDbeams advice.

I would suggest 900mA max for best life and most stable wavelength on both the G71 and the P73 with proper heatsinking. Usually the the G71 produces about 150-200mW less than the P73 @ 900mA.

The G71 diode is the 300mW rated LD? is it right? Do you drive it with900mA?!?
I'd never try it more than 500mA.My DIY LPM did read 288mW with the red 3 layer collimation lens.
So can i push up to 8-900mA?
Do you have the P73 diode in your stock, i need two of them soon.
