    Default Beyond Bogs Down

In order to access the new features of the latest release of Beyond I downloaded this release. Even though I am running it on a laptop, it is a very fast Alienware running Windows 8 on a 3.4G quad core . If I press commands relatively quickly ( at the same rapidity as I have for over a year on a slower desk top) the program locks up or gives an error message and encourages me to wait and then will often spontaneously begin responding again. I can almost always avoid this if I type or press commands SLOWLY with prolonged intervals between entries. I am running 3-4 projectors from this station and this is no different than with the desk top application. Before I begin to substitute comps or OS's or start bugging Pangolin, are there any obvious solutions and am I the only one with this experience?

Do you mean 3 to 4 DACs?

I've got an APC40 on the way, so I'm going to be hitting Beyond (507) fairly hard over the next few weeks, but on a fairly lowly Core2Duo 2ghz T61 Thinkpad, with 2GB of RAM and WinXP, but I'll let you know how I get on. I'll try the fast commands and see how it responds.
I intend to run a stripped down workspace to save RAM, but I expect it'll be procesor I run out of first. This will be with up to 3 FB3's.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

    Hi Planters,

I experienced this problem too. When I go in the parameters window, impossible to close it or close de software. An error ask me to wait, like you.

Maybe there is a link between what I asked : set the speed at 120KPPS for a FB3 ??

    Anyways... the problem is here.

Can you make it do the same thing on the previous release of Beyond?

Regardless, I'd log it with Pangolin now, if only to put it on their radar.

an you make it do the same thing on the previous release of Beyond?
Yes it does, but rarely. When we had all the projectors (FB3's) running and the laser DJ tried to interact with the program we would occasionally see a few seconds where the program would not respond and then... everything was once alright again. This just seems similar, but much more limiting and frustrating. Three FB3's and one video projector through an NVIDIA card are the current load.

does it do it with just one or two fb3's connected ? could usb latencies/buffer issues,
have read stuff like this, with other devices before, although fb3 is 100% compatable on the usb side of things , is does push the limits of some chip sets with its comms (likes the full attention of host with out other devices in the way to confuse it)
hence why fb3 does not work on things like usb over Lan unless you keep it down to <20kps and then its not perfect
When God said “Let there be light” he surely must have meant perfectly coherent light.

I'm with Badger on this, latency causes horrendous lock ups and Nvidea drivers are famous for it.Try run(latencymonitor) Use it all the time for audio but it will tell you of high routines/dpc errors and under the drivers action it will tell you of the offending drivers, usefull software

Still working on this. One pop up claims that Beyond has insufficient memory availibility @ 2Gb even though there are 14 G are available. I will try the latency monitor software once we get this working (at all). Never have had this problem with the Nvidia cards before Beyond. This might also be a Bill G....!!! thing where Windows 8 is protecting us from ourselves and limiting the memory hungry Beyond from accessing additional memory. Trying to check/circumvent this now.

I haven't had a chance to work with Windows 8 but does it give you the option to increase the size of the paging file in virtual memory? Can you go into the task manager and assign it real-time priority?

    Which commands are you punching?

I'm running Build 523 and as fast as I can physically punch cues it responds instantly - edit just tried VLJ at every beat and BPM at 500 per minute, so thats almost 10 cues per second - not even at stutter. However, I have only 1 FB3 connected.

    I'm running a Dell XPS - i5 2440M 2.6ghz, 6GB DDR3, GeForce 550M & Win 7 64 Bit.

I know it was discussed that Beyond might scale in the future to pc specs but I don't know if thats the plan. I also don't know if its system demands or a problem in that Beta build.

However, I'll have a word with Bill. In the meantime, if you could tell me what your punching to make it slow, it would help.
