Default Thoughts on a 350mW laser for minor parties, and software concerns

    Hey everybody!

First of all let me introduce myself as this is my first post. I'm 20 years old, and live in a dormentary in copenhagen with 23 other students. And therefore we sometimes throw big parties, which have let to buying a 350mW RGB laser last week. We were all 24 very excited when the laser was dropped off. we fired it up, and it did what we expected; color animations!

This is the laser we bought.

What do you think. We'll only be using this for minor parties and stuff like that..

The thing is that we would like to write our, sort of a "tag" on walls with this laser, as a promotion for our parties. No problem - the laser came with a software which should be able let us do DIY-shows. The problem is that the software turned our to be really crappy. It's called "Laser controller". No mattter what we try to do within the app, we end up getting errors. So maybe somebody here would have any suggestions on how to go by programming our own ILD-files with animated text.

I tried downloading various kinds of freeware like ILF player, millenium, QuickShow (DEMO) and so on, but neither of them can save shows as .ILD files. well ILf player may, but I don't understand how the program works..

The laser can only show .ILD files (as far ass we can see).

    Kind regards

i use LSX for my show creation. it will save ild. there are also free packages like laserboy that will allow you to create and save .ild.

however, that projector only has 10k galvos (on a good day, down hill, and with a tail wind), so you're going to be very restricted in the complexity of images and animations that it can display. also, it's most likely TTL so you'll only get 7 colors.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

Oh cool! What is LSX? And is it user friendly? How much is it?

It might be TTL, but you know. We'll probably only use it, when people get kind of tipsy and have a good time. Just to spice up the party a little bit, so 7 colors is probably enought for people to even notice. We're hoping that the beams will be visible with a hazer but we'll see about that..

    LSX is this: http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...021#post193021

it can be purchased here: http://hacylon.case.edu/ebay/laser_diode/LSX.php

"user friendly" is relative. it's more complex to use than quickshow, but it will save .ild and it's more flexible.

here are some things i've made with it:

you're kind of handicapped because that projector doesn't have a realtime ilda input, but i think you should be able to make some cool frames and animations to play from the card.

i've never used laser boy, so i can't speak for it, but there's a lot of information about it and low end projectors in this thread: http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...981#post240981
