If I just want to get the different colors, can I short the TTLs? Short blue to get red and green = yellow, short green and blue to get red, etc. Or will that turn the circuit board into smoke?

Why would you short the input? Couldn't you just not connect the channel you want to exclude?
I don't think it can hurt, but I would also never take electronic advise from myself.
Actually, it probably won't hurt the circuit of the laser modules, but it will probably damage your DAC/control system.

Has anyone tried using the CNI one?
I just got the analog version of this in today from techhood on ebay. It is my first labby, and I have really no clue how to go about getting all the colors from it. I have it powered by 2x18650 batteries with a on/off switch wired in and it is very portable and fun to use as a pointer. I just would really like to know how to select colors on it, what kind of circuit do I need to plug into it? Right now I can just unplug the colors power to select between 7 colors, but it is a very tedious way to do it. Can anyone help out a noob?
I had to align the colors and now they are very very good, perfect I would say, even over 100ft and farther. It was difficult to get the colors aligned at distance but now it is very rewarding.
Thanks
I believe the three connectors on the left of your first picture are the modulation inputs. Can you connect 5V to them? If you supply 5V, do the lasers go on or off?
Well this module isnt made for *pointer* use, this is ment to be used with a powersupply, Most people get the 5v signal from a DAC that is beeing controlled by a pc.
but you could just hook any 5v source to the pins via a Molex connector, once you apply the 5v the corresponding color will turn off.

I found out that with 0v applied to the molex, grounded, it turns off the color.
I'l post more pics at night, but this is my alignment job. Difficult to do, I had to actually bore out one of the lens mounts with a dremel to get it adjusted at long distances. I have to now super glue my mounts in place.
Here is the dot mid day at 130ft. Can't get much better than that really.
I don't plan on using this unit for nothing more than a portable RGB pointer. It's FUN! The different color beams at night is incredible.
