Default 520nm laser diodes now available, and protected by LASORB!

    Hi folks,

Check out the new video I made here:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Sjj1Mp_HhQ

Kecked here on PL made arrangements for me to receive some from Creative Technology Lasers (laser66.com).

Due to the high dynamic impedance and perhaps other factors (no doubt one being that they are single-mode diodes), these things are VERY sensitive to ESD! Fortunately, as you will see, they are completely protected when LASORB is attached.

    Enjoy!

Hi bill, thanks for blowing up an expensive diode! Do you have a new lasorb model for the greens or are you using a blue and the vf is close enough?

    Bill,

Just thinking...no don't worry. Have you thought about or tried to apply Lasorb to electronic components that might be vulnerable to ESD 'beyond" laser diodes? There must be choke points in commercially significant devices such as memory trays, mother boards and maybe even LED display systems. EMP is pretty fast, but there may still be some military interest due to enhanced reliability. Hmm

Hehe. Wouldn't be the first time, and won't be the last Actually we blew up a few of them this morning. We have to do this in order to understand where the limits are -- both with and without protection.

The '833 is definitely close enough and that's what I used for my own testing. However, we have come up with a '916 part formulation and the datasheet is already on the web now.

Why would I worry! You've proven to be a great thinker!

Yes indeed. There is the obvious -- other photonics-related equipment including Superluminescent diodes, but yes also GUNN diodes may be protected by LASORB as well.

Right now, we've restricted our marketing efforts to laser diodes, but if someone stumbles upon us due to search engine ranking, then we'll be happy to help them.

    Thanks for the questions guys!

That's pretty amazing. Is Pangolin going to sell these diodes in some fashion? Any word on beam specs and collimation? 50mw is about all I need for my home projectors I used for testing so sounds very attractive.

If you can protect against EMP there's a huge military market out there, but I'm sure you've realised that!

Ouch that was like watching someone kill my dog! good to know that you have a part for these now as I already killed one myself. If you have not seen the color in person it is extremely nice. Think argon without the noisy fan. Come on 170mw's

    Hey Bill,

Great job on the video.. It was pretty cool to see the inner workings of your labs.. Maybe someday you guys can give us
a video grand tour of the whole office.. I always enjoy seeing where the magic is made..

    Best,
    Mark

That's neat to see .. except for the blow-up part.

So in quantities of one, what's a 520nm laser run nowadays?

It was PL member Kecked (who also replied to this thread) who made arrangements for me to receive these through Creative Technology Lasers. They can be found at www.laser66.com. It is my understanding that they have these in stock and ready for sale right now.
