The third option is to sell the QM and buy an extender and some more FB3's. Is there a particular reason you need a QM?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.
The FB4 appears to be vaporware ATM.
We do use mixed FB3's and QMnet, mostly because we have them.
Beyond is built to run FB3's and will give a much smoother output, so if you have the choice, run with FB3.
I don't really need the QM at this moment Norty. The big advantage is the ethernet option. It was my first dac that I bought so I'm emotional attached to it ;P whahaha.
But today at work a colleague of my attended me at this:
http://www.sharkoon.com/?q=en/conten...nport-400-giga
It's a usb hub with a ethernetport. If you put this in a local network you can use the usb as if it was in you pc/laptop. Don't know if it works with the FB3 but it runs on max of a gigabit lan connection. It is worth testing it because it costs only €45,- ($55,-) and its very compact (68x68x29 mm (LxWxH). If it works you can probably build it in with an FB3 in a projector. And maybe even run it with QM's in the network. So you never have to run multiple lines from front of house etc.
Gonna test it soon wit Hobbybob and see if this is a option to use![]()
Keep you guys updated.
Save your money. I have a similar thing by Belkin that doesn't work. If you read the blurb it says it uses software to determine what connects to what which is also the same as the Belkin

Anything that uses a driver will blue-screen your PC when it sees FB3. ( I have a small collection of simliar devices.) If it does not need drivers and doesn't go through a router, then it may work. Try before buy.
Is there a particular reason you need it run over LAN rather than it's own run of cat5? Startech do a hub that is EITHER proprietary OR will run over gigabit LAN but it's about 50% more than their usual extender. Still only about the same price as an FB3. You could get one of those and 3 FB3 for the price of a QM with .NET box

Hi Norty,
Have you tested the Startech version that runs over LAN?
That device would be good in theatres with patch bays and no way to run direct cable to stage from FOH
No, but another member has, because we discussed it on a thread. Try a search for Startech gigabit. Although I'm still not sure why you wouldn't just use one of the lines dedicated for your normal extender? Over here cat5 lines tend to be run from foh to stage and aren't necessarily connected to a switch anyway.

P.S. In this thread Bill talks about a possible cheaper solution than the Startech, and advises anyone interested to drop him an email. Why not see what it is all about?
