Default Hi! I'm new here! Looking to join the ranks and educate myself. Please help!

    Greetings.

My name is Kipper and I'm club disc jockey. I've been spinning for quite some time, and the fact is I'm looking for something more.

A month or so ago I was just hopping around on Ebay when I found cheap RGB chinese lasers and got ULTRA excited.

Being that I'm not one to rush into anything, and assure that I'm the smartest man in the room when it comes to any subject.

My hope is to procure an RGB laser with a 30+ KPBs and anywhere from 1w to 1800w of power and run it with pangolin quickshow.

My needs are small, I have one residency at a night club that can fit 100 people in it, with ceilings at about 11 feet.

Furthermore, I'd like to be able to use said laser at the occasional wedding.

Thus far my reading has taught me:

    A) Don't buy from China
    B) Don't buy anything from Laswerworld
    C) Make sure that it's FDA safety Compliant
    D) Get yourself a laser variance

I'm very intrigued by the lasers over at goldenstar .

However, I have a good $400 worth of credit on my ebay account. Is there ever ANYTHING worth buying off of there?

Furthermore, my budget isn't tremendous. I'm hoping to spend somewhere in the $1200 range.

I'm sure many of the more senior members of this board may scoff at such a small sum, but the fact is, I really need this for accent and attention. Its use will never really be for dynamic light shows in arenas or stages, just mobile DJ stuff. Mentioning this, I'm looking at the variance forms and I'm wondering if that's even legal???

Please, tell me more about the proper course of getting started, what I should know, how I should proceed.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Hi,
I have just been directed over to CT-Lasers(http://www.ctlasers-store.com/default.asp) by some of the members here.

I have been doing some research and it sounds like X-Laser is a good brand, Also they sell a variance "kit" to make getting one alot easier.
    Good Luck,
    bsancken

Well, 1800 Watts of power is going to set fire to the club and cost you a pretty penny for the required industrial laser. ... However, not bad for a first post, in fact, darn GOOD!. Welcome to PL.

W = Watts. mW = milliWatt, a thousandth of a watt. 1800 mW (1.8 watts) for first time upper limit is not bad, but you will be aesthetically challenged if your up against a lot of leds or HMI fixtures in a club. Most will tell you to start lower for safety reasons, but these days the minimum a projector comes with in blue is about 1 watt.

There are some safety things we need to discuss, but your desire for compliance to the law and openly stating your budget is to be commended.

Mark, aka CT/Gottaluv there is a pretty good person to start with, as He will get you legal, tell you the straight and level news, and stand by his product. You do need to budget for some control software/hardware as well as the projector.

    Great First Post!

Agreed. Based on your needs and budget, X-Laser is your best bet. Keep in mind Quickshow will run (at best) about $500 of your $1600 budget but you are correct in that's what you want. X-Laser items turn up on eBay from time to time but, you're probably better off using your eBay credit towards the Quickshow and use your budgeted funds towards the laser. I know Marc at CT Lasers well and, he's a good one to talk to. Some of the larger DJ companies also are X-Laser dealers and may have some financing or other benefits. The down side to that is Marc KNOWS lasers whereas someone like an IDJNOW is just a dealer so there could be trade offs. Marc is also a good upgrade path should you get into higher end stuff.

By the way, you ought to mention where you're from. There are forum members all over the place as well as laser enthusiest meetings we can direct you to which, if you've started to get the bug, are a lot of fun to attend.
