SaltyRobot, Polishedball, and Flecom added to the attendee list! Sorry for the delay in replying... Just got back from a long (and very draining) trip. Now I need a vacation to recover from my vacation!
Stiffler: RGB-gas has a CO2 cryo system, but I don't think anyone in attendance has ever seen a liquid N2 system, so if you have the room to bring it, that could be very cool (pun intended). Agree that an air quality meter is a must though.
John - with regards to a lumia room; I think the plan is to set those up in the gallery area. I know that James (DrEvil) will be bringing his, and Greg (Displaser) usually brings a few lumia toys with him as well. Since the gallery area is well-lit, you can better see how the units are assembled, and the extra lighting doesn't really hurt the lumia effect.
Matt: really sorry to hear you can't be there for the duration pal. We're going to miss you in the ion laser work room! I'll get with Jeff and make sure our power needs are covered since you won't be available for setup.
In other news, we are getting close to the break-even point with regard to registrations, and that's a good thing! We have just over 2 months to go, and usually by this point we only have about half as many people signed up. So it's looking like this year will be bigger than last year. Maybe even bigger than 2011? Time will tell I guess.
Finally, I got an answer from Olivia (new venue manager) regarding the use of the kitchen facilities. Here's what she had to say about that:
So I put it to Brad and Len: Is it worth it to pay some schmuck from the School System for 3 or 4 hours each day just so we can use the kitchen? From the sound of things, I don't think we'll be able to use the fryer unless we also bring our own peanut oil, which might get really expensive, so it may be that we will only have access to a large stove and an oven or two. But we already have most of that in the break room for the auditorium itself.I finally got some official word from the school about the use of the cafeteria. It sounds like in order to use the kitchen; you’d have to hire an additional staff person from their own staff at $25.00 per hour to oversee the use of the facility. Additionally, you’d have to bring all your own pots, pans, etc. as theirs will be locked up in inventory from the summer. Let me know what your thoughts are on this… as soon as I have your rental pack back I can get the contract from the school. It’s a simple one-pager like last time and they’ve agreed to do it for the same price as last time. Let me know your thoughts on that route. It seems like anytime you’d be in the kitchen you’d have to pay someone the $25/hour to be in there, non-negotiable on their end.
Let me know what you guys think, and if you still want to go forward with this I'll start asking questions about minimum times and specifics on the fryer...
Adam
I'll go ahead and bow out early this year ~
I'm looking at a lot of prospects for job changes over the summer, and right now they all involve (additional) pay cuts.
See you guys in 2014!

Sweet.....
We'll figure something out regarding the kitchen. Maybe just for one event like Saturday night dinner or something and, use the theater kitchen the rest of the time. I'm ok with it (and would underwrite it) since we wouldn't need it long. Getting ready for a 200 person wedding shortly so, I'm preoccupied but I'll give it some "think" time.![]()
Only problem with a grill is that it's basically time consuming and potentially takes a person or people away from possible activities they may want to participate in. The advantage of having gotten access to the commercial kitchen over the one in the theater is time, space and ease of use. Clean up is also considerably easier as well with proper sinks. This isn't really "that" big a deal. For those that enjoy making food for a group (which is not everyone, I know) and do it regularly like myself and Len, providing some meal options at SELEM is both cheap and extremely easy. Given the right equipment, a full meal is easily done for a couple bucks versus people running out and spending a lot more to get fast food or, something else. I know I've hit the BBQ place for something quick the last couple years and dropped like $12 on a sandwich, fries and a drink. You can do a hell of a lot better meal onsite for $3 or $4 in the donation can and never have to leave SELEM. Seriously. The meatball sandwiches that we've done in the past work out to like $.75 or something like that.
I have some ideas, as does Len, and we will have a plan soon.![]()
Could I bring my mirror-ball?![]()
