I had a blast this year. It really makes me wish I could have been there last year.

Thanks Adam for organizing such a fantastic gathering. I've been attending SELEM since 2009 and it keeps getting bigger and better. I can't wait to see what 2014 is like.

I have to apologize to everyone who wanted to go for a ride in the Cessna with me. The weather was just not cooperating. Maybe next year. Sorry.

    Chris

SELEM 2013 is almost to a close (the lucky LSO class people are still in Newton). Matthew and I made great time and were unloading the van by 2:45 am and hit the bed at 4:45 am - back at work by 8:30. Vacation? What vacation...

As always, a great event that gets bigger and better every year. We loosely held to a schedule... We managed to have shows running a majority of the time... ClubSELEM "2.0" was even more impressive than last year... And once again, I brought way too much stuff. Mirror balls never made it up and a few other lights never got unpacked but hey... you'll be able to see on the video that we weren't lacking. One of the scary things is how quickly my projectors have become underpowered for the event. When you can't really "see" a 3 watt anymore and it blends in with the rest of the noise, you've got some serious firepower going on.

I thought a lot while driving the 496 miles home about the past few years and this crazy thing I've gotten myself into. I can't hold a candle to what a lot of you know about lasers - the building of the actual projector, operating the software, networking things together and making things do what you want them to do, or DMX... and so forth. It's very humbling to be given the time of day by someone like Steve Roberts when you're a complete numpty about electronics or, to be strolling through the parking lot and have someone like Bill Benner know your name, remembers when you first started in the hobby, and takes the time to hold a conversation with you. That you even exist on these peoples radar is again, humbling. Or, have the wizard that is "DZ" so willingly and enthusiastically give up his time and talents to go above and beyond to help fix and troubleshoot things. That someone as busy as buffo often takes time out of his schedule to pick up the phone and call me, of all people, about this or that. I'll stop at the risk of omitting names but, this forum contains a truly amazing, amazing group of people and for me, the people is what makes SELEM such a special experience. The lasers? Meh... it's a nice touch. lol

Next year... quality over quantity. I'm not bringing that much stuff again. The layering of each persons stuff in ClubSELEM and each having their own independent control was nice and I want to do it again next year but when 8 of my RGB's (about 10 watts total) kick on and it doesn't make much difference, it's time to rethink dragging along almost everthing you own!

Anybody know young Greg's username? By young Greg I am referring to Dr. Sam's ride. He has some pictures on his camera that I would not mind getting my hands on.

Had so much fun for my first year at SELEM. My Dad also had a blast.

Swamidog thank you for the one on one LSX class. You opened up my eyes on several different methods that I had never thought about before. My shows are going to get an order of magnitude better now that you showed me a few things. DZ thank you for having an amazing rig to keep the content running all weekend. Thank you for having analog stuff to play with as well. Thanks to everyone who contributed equipment for the weekend. I can say without a doubt I have never seen so many projectors in one place and especially with that power like there was in Club SELEM. Holy S**t. Thanks to the people that provided beam shows in the auditorium Saturday. I have never been one for beam shows but clearly I have been watching the wrong ones because those were amazing. I am already thinking about the possibilities of having a Beam and Graphics shows designed for next year now that I know the possibilities. Bill Brenner thanks for taking the time to talk my Dad and I for a little bit. Its always nice talking shop with someone as knowledgeable as you.

I can definatly see why everyone counts on going to SELEM every year. I can say without a doubt I am hooked and will be going for many years to come. Already thinking about the equipment list for next year.

Also, your shows have helped inspire me to get into projectors. I loved it, my wallet on the other hand is displaying some interesting emotions.

I'm having withdrawals. I can't believe I let myself miss a year. This year was freaking awesome (particularly playing an LSX and Pango show against each other, which ruled!) in so many ways, and I have to say, watching certain people's eyes light up as they watch lasers, and shows, and seeing that light come on, and the passion start to take hold, just gives me such a warm fuzzy feeling in my heart to which nothing compares. I learned a lot, and was able to teach a bit too, and I got to meet people I talk to on a regular basis but have never met! I always go through withdrawals about this time, but we will all stay in contact. Only 363 more days until SELEM!
