Transportation booked. I went with a cargo van so... lots of goodies!Unbelieveable... last year I brought a minivan and it was like $370 for the week. This year, when I checked the rates a couple days ago it was the same $370. Today when I went to actually reserve it... they wanted $711.60!! The cargo van was $316 so... MORE LASERS AT SELEM!!

Brad: Awesome! Looking forward to seeing lots of extra toys in "Club-SELEM" this year.
Jonathan: If you'll be there Thursday, can you and Andrew assist with load-in and setup? We will be starting around Noon.
Frank: I don't think Aaron will arrive until later on Thursday afternoon. Will you be there earlier? Would like you to work with Brad on the setup for "Club-SELEM".
Adam
What can I help with? Wrapping cords? Something where I can't break multi-thousand dollar equipment.
What exactly is "club-SELEM"?
My ride flies in at 1 (myself at 1206) so we should probably be there around 2-3 pending baggage claim times.
Don't worry Sean - We will put you to work!
Setup involves a lot of cables, a lot of tables, and more than a little swearing... Mostly it's pretty boring - moving boxes and other equipment, setting up tripods, scaffold, etc, and pulling wire. But there will be some fun too.
As for breaking stuff, we're usually pretty careful. I don't think you'll have a problem. Worst case, if someone asks you to move something that you think is to fragile, stop and ask someone else to assist, or just say that you're afraid to move it. We will have lots of help, so it's never been an issue.
"Club-SELEM" is the secondary display area that we started using last year. It's in the Cafeteria, which is adjacent to the Auditorium. We set up a completely separate sound system in there, and in addition to numerous laser projectors (and even a few beam rails), we also have lots of DMX lighting fixtures set up in there. So it's more like a nightclub or dance club setup. This year we will even have some mirrored balls in there. (Although it is a risky effect, scanning onto a mirrored ball can be mind-blowing, provided you do it safely.)
Bottom line: Club-SELEM is where you want to go to see "live" laser shows, while the Auditorium is where you want to go to see pre-choreographed shows.
In reality, you'll find yourself moving back and forth between them throughout the event, just like everyone else.

Sounds like there's lots of work to be done! Terrific! That's why I volunteered, ha. Can't wait to help out and get this show in the road.
So the club is an adaptingaser show where you can put in whatever you want to do next and see it happen in real time?
Did someone say sausage fest earlier? Give that man a cookie haha.
Anyway, I cannot wait to be there. It's already going to be mind blowing![]()
ClubSELEM is a new space we began using last year that utilizes the cafeteria of the school that's next to the theater. We reserved the auditorium for the running of pre-made shows with what some people deem is an optimum setup with matched projectors for beams and a 6 watt whitelight gas laser for graphics. ClubSELEM on the other hand is more of a free for all, anything goes, live nightclub experience with some pre-made shows but, the emphasis is taking turns being able to play a bunch of lasers live to a DJ spinning tunes. I'll probably bring my Novation Remote Zero for those wanting to play with LivePro and my APC40 for playing with BEYOND. I've also got a 24" touchscreen All-In-One that works well for Quickshow as well as BEYOND. It also has Phoenix 4+ Live on it.
We added some non-coherent DMX controllable lights to the mix last year and, I'm bringing a lot more non-coherent stuff for this year for that space. I think we're going to attempt some mirror balls and experiment with a "laser rain" effect. The main emphasis is on lasers of course and there will be all sorts of shapes sizes and powers on scaffolding but, this year it should have even more of an all out nightclub feel. I'll have some scanners, and other stuff. Maybe a few 750watt strobes, and if I'm feeling flush with cash the day before SELEM, some moving heads since I'll be at the Atlantic City DJ Expo on Tuesday. I have a few I sort of want to get but really want to see them in person first. I'm probably bringing my uplighting system for both the cafeteria as well as the auditorium. (A couple on the side walls in the auditorium is merely to make it a little easier to see without tripping over things/people and, doesn't detract from the lasers - it actually enhances them.)
Do a Youtube search for "ClubSELEM" and you can see a little of last year.
It all boils down to van space. Whatever room there is will be stuffed with equipment.![]()
Definitely! We'll be there.Jonathan: If you'll be there Thursday, can you and Andrew assist with load-in and setup?

Here's what it looked like last year:
More than that. We have laser show software running in there that is designed for "live" performances. So as you hear the music, you hit the controls and vary the lasers to the beat. Watch the video and you'll get some idea. (Trust me, it's a lot of fun.)So the club is an adapting laser show where you can put in whatever you want to do next and see it happen in real time?

I know no time has been allocated for all these shows I've been working on getting ready for SELEM the past couple months but, I just now put the finishing touches on another 87 more collected and created with Showeditor. I hope to preview and rate beforehand but, time will likely not be on my side. I think I'm well over 700 individual songs between numerous software packages so... the open hour or two in the auditorium schedule if there are any, I "think" perhaps I can cover.![]()
Should we be starting an equipment thread or list so we're not duplicating too many efforts? I'm just thinking about hazers, fog machines, splitters, cables, etc. I AM remembering a sound system for the conference room at the hotel this year. Meant to bring it last year and forgot but, it's in already in the rapidly growing pile o' crap to pack.
