First of all, thank you to EVERYONE at SELEM for making this a truly memorable experience.
A list of firsts for me:
First balcony-level beam show (thanks to Platinum)
First time seeing >4 RGB lasers in action at once (thanks to everyone with projectors in ClubSELEM)
First time meeting anyone from PL (other than Platinum, who is responsible for me being here)
First time seriously contemplating what I can hock for cash to buy lasers
I definitely went full laser... and now there's no turning back. I've seen the light! Literally, I close my eyes and I'm still seeing beams
Thank you to everyone who had nice things to say about my DJ set last night. I'll be sure to bring my A game next year.
A HUGE thank you to everyone who had critiques and suggestions for ways to improve the two 6-ish watt 445 projectors that Platinum and I brought. We put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into making those and we're grateful for the input. We're anxious to start work on the Mark II projectors.
Missed connections (aka I'm terrible at remembering things):
Len: PM me for a couple of those 1/3 RPM motors and lab lasers (specifically the greens and reds) so I can PayPal you some scrilla.
ANYONE WHO WANTS MIRRORS CUT: I'll be happy to cut your dielectric mirrors for your projector builds with my laser. It makes a totally kickass cut and you won't waste any mirrors with breakage. PM me for details.
Those that are interested in laser housings or CNC machine work: email me at andrew@elmridgemfg.com or PM me and let's talk. I'd love to help out with your build and I can accommodate anything you'd like to do.
I think that's about it. If I missed anyone or anything, I'm sorry! I'm tired from all the travel. Oregon is a long ways away
Cheers, everyone.
Neat!
Wow, best SELEM yet. By far, from the perspective of more of an observer of the projectors. I'm currently more of a gas guy, but it really made me want to join the ranks of the projector guys soon; I fear.
So, here's my .02
It was disappointing not seeing DJmatt there, the gas room was less packed than usual. But Saturday night it seemed to fill up and Sunday morning it had even more. (Mostly reliant argons it looked like and the HGM they were trying to get to work.) Lots more HeNe's than I've seen in past years, including lots of yellows and a couple oranges (one multiline!)
And a Spectra Physics 127 I bought and took home
It was very nice having a schedule posted by the back stage door for each day. I didn't remember that from the last two years. It was easier to follow what was going on.
In the main auditorium, the laser show projectors seemed spot on and incredible shows and set up. The five on stage for beam shows and the awe-inspriring one used for projection were great.
More food this time also and very good.
I only heard one complaint and he said that the trading and selling wasn't as good as before. I don't agree, but that was his opinion. Len had lots of stuff and there were some hi-power (2+ watt) units for sale also, I met lots of new people and learned tons.
It was great having Sam and Steve there. Picked Sams brains on a couple things, along with others like swamidog and MarioMaster.
The presentation on Beyond was excellent and I really enjoyed the cool things you could do with taggin live feeds, like audio to a laser effect. (Maybe someday, also)
Thanks Adam and everyone else, I'm sure I'm not the only one who really appreciated the way it was put together.
I just got home from my second SELEM, and wanted to express what a fantastic time I had with these fun and talented people and their super-cool stuff!
Thanks to the phenomenal efforts of Buffo, whose tireless efforts make this event possible. Personally, as the SELEM matriarch, I think we should start referring to him as "Mom".
The auditorium this year was once again AWESOME. DZ's leadership and administration over the 'big rigs' there was awesome. Several people brought their shows in hand and time was made to let them see what it looks like on DZ's beautiful dual head rig fed by 6Watts of gaseous yumminess as well as 5 well balanced beam projectors thanks to (at least) to Brad. DZ also made his awesome analog panel accessible to anyone who wanted to have a go with it. Truly special!
I'll let someone else describe Club SELEM, but it truly blew my mind Saturday night. That many projectors, beam tables and non-coherent light fixtures with a dj in a private venue all done by talented volunteers is . . unbelievable.
The talks were all interesting and well attended. My thanks to all of the speakers! For the sessions that were recorded, I will make them available ASAP, but please don't expect good quality video.
Most important though were the people attending. I don't think you could find a more fun and interesting group anywhere. It was an honor to be able to hang out with the group!
Many thanks to everyone participating!
-David
"Help, help, I'm being repressed!"
Just so that everyone gets to see it who didn't. The previously mentioned 4 line HeNe, and one of the events that is resting in my top SELEM experiences.
