    Default Look at these nifty TECs

    Cool Aperture - center-hole thermoelectric coolers

    Not really new apparently, but interesting none the less.
    Don't know if this has been posted before.
    It looks like they can keep popular diodes at decent temps.

    And for any diodes that are sized differently, one only needs to machine an adapter plate of some form. Very cool.

    Neato, but.. thinking hot-side / waste-heat removal might be a challenge.. Doh! didn't read far-enough... sell-below.. Still, ideally, you'd have either a TEC 'dropping' cold onto a diode-mount, with the heat-wick to the top, or, 'invert' the whole-enchilada, the way RGB-Hungary does... TEC'd baseplate / Heat-sinks to the top-side... plays-well with physics.. Cool-lookin little bug, tho..

    Interesting point. This might be where heat pipes come into play but they would need to be routed and cooled as well. The more complicated it is, the more it is liable to break!

    ...Doh! Was in hurry, didn't read far-enough... Seeing the 'intent', more-clearly, now..



    ..still, with the need to design an efficient-way to remove the waste-heat + the TEC-heat, not sure if this would yield a better-overall result.. looks like someone needs to get one / do some lab-testing / post the results, vs a 'typical' mount... ... Sir planters?

    Wondering if that could not also be disastrous if the TEC suffered a momentary power failure.

    It looks like they are designed for custom diodes with an integrated thermistor, so the driver could be interlocked (like how any well designed cooled diode setup would be) with temperature. I can't see much of a use for a setup like this for show applications, since you would almost always be better off cooling the baseplate (keep in mind that the heat has to get conducted to air somehow, and the temperature drop across the mount/heatsink will only be larger if you move the tec to the diode due to the higher heat load). This only seems useful for telecom applications where the diode has to be kept at a precise temperature (for wavelength stability) so the reduced thermal mass makes your life easier, or applications where there is an insignificant heat load so conduction to the air in the module makes a significant contribution to the total heat load.

    ... I have some 405nm-LED's with +20Amps and 9Watts optical power with water-cooling - could be made too with a center hole for inserting the laserdiodes ...
