    Default Virtual DJ

When running a projector with Beyond, it is sometimes convenient to pick a page and set the selector to V. DJ and the individual cues on that page will randomly follow each other. You also have a variety of ways the software allows you to transition from cue to cue. So far so good. But, as far as I can tell, without reassigning each individual cue on a page to a particular projector (one at a time) the software will default the projections to the Main Graphics Projector and you can not redirect to another projector. Also, if you wish the V.DJ to run one page to one projector and simultaneously run another page (also running a V.DJ program) to an other projector this can't be done. The best I have been able to achieve is to individually assign each cue on the same page to every projector and have them all run the same cue at the same time. This looks rather stupid and highlights any projector misalignment as well.

I contacted P. via email and the result was quite complex and involved opening a new work space and importing cues from elsewhere and assigning each or the page to a particular projector or multiple projectors. I now feel kinda stupid.

    Any suggestions?

I think you're very slightly wrong here or have a bug / bad installation as the default zone is actually the zone they were assigned to originally eg Graphics go to Main Graphics, Atmospherics go to Atmospherics etc. At least that is what is happening in my preview window when I run it on my current version and what I've seen previously. Set it to "Run on any page selected by the user" and you can switch between cue types and thus zones at will by simply selecting a category tab. If everything on every page is going to Main Graphics, there is something wrong.

I can't offer any help on the multiple projector issue where you want different zones to each projector simultaneously as you can't multi-cue VLJ. You can output one zone to multiple projectors or even one zone to multiple zones over multiple projectors, but not different cues to different zones to different projectors from VLJ all at the same time to my knowledge. I'm guessing that VLJ being an automated system was only ever designed to be used simply, eg for when the operator wasn't available to manually make changes. eg when perhaps loading a show to the timeline during another track.

I've grabbed a quick screenshot from mine.

You can see the VLJ button is selected and a cue is running from Atmospherics. With the preview window running in 9 zone mode, you can clearly see the cue has been sent to the "Atmospherics" zone (4). The cue in the bottom left in Main Graphics is merely the thumbnail showing through:

Another thing to check would be that you assigned the Zones in Settings > Zones to each projector correctly and individually if using multiple projectors, otherwise all the zones maybe assigned to the default projector which will probably be the 1st one connected to the system. That might explain why eg Atmospherics were going to a projector you were using for graphics. Its not that the zoning is wrong, rather than the fact that you have that zone assigned to that projector to which you have given a different role.

    Hi Planters,

I don't remember seeing this question from you. Was it another member of the Pangolin team who answered? Please let me know so we can point out some features that not even the other guys might have known about.

First, like what Al said, if you "split the preview window" and then click on one of those zones, and then trigger VLJ, then cues should be redirected to that zone (or even multiple zones if you do CTRL+CLICK while choosing them).

Another way would be to create a second page (not a whole new workspace) and re-select zones on the second page. Since BEYOND has two separate views into the workspace, it is easy to drag and drop from one page to another, and create a whole new page. Then (and here's something many people might not know about), you can select multiple cues on every page (using CTRL+Click and SHIFT+Click, just like Windows Explorer), then bring up Cue Properties and assign new properties to all selected cues. For the past month or so, BEYOND has offered the ability to select multiple cues and then change settings on the selected cues.

So the way I see it, there are multiple ways to get where you want to go. Some ways you may not have known about (and in fact, even some other Pangolin team members might not know about) since they are so new and also undocumented.

    Bill
