Default X-laser Nocturne from 2010 - Allignment question

Just scored an X-Laser Nocturne off ebay a while back. According to X-Laser tech support these are the basic specs of it after it left their shop..

    Blue: 58mW, red 210mW, Green 71mW

    50K scanners. TTL.

    It's a 2010 model.

The previous owner said it had less than 200 hours on it and was ran strictly DMX in a nightclub. It sat in storage for over a year. While it was in use it was mounted....never mobile.

The unit is clean on the outside so it must have been taken at least decent care of...so I'm taking the owner at it's word.

I'm very very new to this....I've never opened up one of my lasers. I'm willing to ship it back to X-Laser to get it aligned but I don't have the money right now.

What are the odds in a million years that I could attempt to do the alignment myself? I'm not an expert at electronics.

I do own quickshow with an FB3 if that helps. I'm willing to pay someone to walk me through it over video/phone/email if this is doable. I've been watching the forums for a while and can understand some of the personalities that may be helpful.

    Thanks for your honest replies.

You know a lot more than you give yourself credit for.

I don't know the "official X-Laser position" on this as I've never asked Dan. I can't believe they would expect a client to ship them back the projector every time it comes out of alignment but, then again, that's what may technically be required to keep everything kosher with their records (a big part of a manufacturers record keeping). Anyway, I would imagine an alignment has to be simple. I don't expect X-Laser has cheap non adjustable hot glued dichro mounts in their projectors. Take off the cover and snap a picture so we can see the insides and advise.

Maybe one of the X-Laser crew will chime in.

THanks man. I've contacted them. Poor Dan was down with a leg break. eeesh... So their techs are pretty swamped. I respect protocal even if it's out of warranty. I'm with you. I can't imagine the laser has to be shipped back....my worries is the difficulty or if I need special glasses etc. I will take some pics....Probably in the next week. Busy with concerts right now...just planting the seed.

    Thanks!

It really should not be difficult at all. Nor should you need special glasses. In theory, they're always a good idea but, I've watched people align like 25 projectors (and done a bunch of my own) without them. I'm going to guess they're something like a flex mount and not one with two or three adjustment knobs. (Oh, and you don't have to be any good with electronics - alignment is strictly mechanical. If you can turn a thumbscrew or a screwdriver slightly, you're golden!)

I'll have to touch base with a "get well" for Dan. I didn't know about the broken leg. That sucks!

Hey there Jeremiah, this is Adam from X-Laser. Give me a call at the office today, I'll be running around a bit but just call the general extension and ask for me and they'll transfer you.

Glad to hear it, Jeremiah. I had a feeling they'd hook you up. The folks at X-laser really are good people.

    Adam
