Hey guys, i am a bit in doubt...
Tomorrow i might be able to pick a Spectra Physics Model 3275 CW Yag laser for a good/low price.
It's officially a laser marking system (100W of invisible light 1.06uM)
    So i think it's dangerous.

it's got a spare flashlamp and tomorrow i will check it out.

But the only place i know of where a lot of people with knowledge of this dark matter gathers is around Surfleet in 2 weeks.
Should i bring it and maybe we can have a go to see if it's willing to run ?

Can this be converted into something spewing out visible light ? I need someone helping me dust off/increase my gas laser knowledge.
    I didn't fail !
I just found out 10,000 ways that didn't work.

    OMG !!
    Invisible Death Ray Lasers !!

    Sounds decidedly dodgy.
I'm glad I'm only there for one night (the night that nobody gets disintegrated!).

BTW Dimitri, I'm bringing you some of that special stuff that you like.

    Dimmers...
That YAG sounds fun to tinker with. Does it come with any kind of scanning system (with or without F-theta lens)? If so... you've got a nice laser cutter/marker there that should be easy enough to get in running order

You won't get any visible light out, as it doesn't have a frequency doubler. You could add one... risky! But you'll basically end up with a pseudo-laserscope. It does have a whopper Q-switch in it.

I'd stab a guess at it needing mains water and 220V 3-phase. NOT a common UK voltage... But, there might be a tap on that mother-trucking tranny I've got for the gasser that may run it.

I'd say if it's really cheap, and you fancy a tinker, and may end up with a marker/cutter in the end... the UKLEM is as good a place as any to get it working.
If you're going just to look tomorrow; take x1,000,000 photos of all the gubbins and that should give us a clearer idea to see if it may be a go-er.

BRING SOME IR GOGGLES IF SO!

    Sheesh.
Things have sure moved on from my first LEM where everybody had 20mw green pens ..........

Nowadays you must ensure that "all your affairs are in order" before attending a UKLEM.

    Hey buddy,

Sounds exciting and potentially lethal. I like !

However my hunch is you can't get visible light out of it without a significant amount of graft. Could be wrong.. (Surely someone will correct me if I'm wrong!)

Bring it with you if it's not too heavy but personally I'll be standing on the other side of the carpark if it gets run up.

Other similar so heads need a chiller / di water / and combined weight of head and power supply near 150kgs!

On a side note I'm travelling up on Saturday as I'm stuck in a data centre Friday night.. People with gassers.. Do you need my plumbing stuff ? Hoses etc. If so I'll drop them off to Tony assuming he's travelling Friday.
