Greetings! Been a while since I've posted, but here's some nice ones from the Sudekum Planetarium dome in Nashville. We're using an AVI Skylase FX system with Saturn scanners. These are all scanning between 90-120K (yes, you read that right). All are shot with about 1/4 second exposure. Enjoy!

Great pics, Bill! Thanks for sharing.

Are these images from shows that you've leased from AVI, or were these created by you or your staff? (And if you did create them yourself, what hardware or software did you use to create them?)

Thanks, Adam! AVI doesn't produce shows for 90K specifically. These are all from my productions and fairly recent. To answer your other questions - Beyond 5.1, with specific settings for 90K (maximum 120k). These shows are being played back from Beyond directly to the Skylase FX from an FB3.
Here's a video clip from my Foo Fighters show. https://vimeo.com/684100576
    Enjoy!

Thanks for posting the Foo Fighter's clip, Bill! Refreshing to see that there's still a market for abstract shows in a dome.

Also, it's very cool that you're doing all of this yourself. I would not have guessed that those abstracts were done in Beyond. Great job!

It seems odd that AVI isn't selling/leasing any content for higher scan-rates - especially since the Skylase FX projector can do 60K and 90K at the flip of a switch. Maybe that's something they are working on.?. Nice to see that in the absence of content from them, you've taken the lead yourself though.

We need to get you to come to SELEM so you can compare notes with the other abstract aficionados.

No, AVI isn't producing shows like they did years ago. The staff isn't as big anymore - but dedicated. Good people! They're doing a lot of non-planetarium-laser show stuff these days. Added to that, most Skylase systems are still the older ones with CT scanners and run at 30K. Only the new Skylase FX systems have the Saturn scanners. Most theaters that have the capability don't have the staff or knowledge to go ahead and produce 90K shows.
That's where the Sudekum planetarium will fill a little "niche market". We will be selling shows that can run on those systems capable of 90K, with the beams and FX. We're going to work with AVI on that. Those same shows will also have a 30K version, with minor changes, so older projectors can run them.
As for Beyond production, I use a combination of shapes, the newer abstract generator, the old "LD200 style" abstract generator that's built into Beyond, parametric images - and using audio driven "waves" and color/pattern changes. Sometimes the music can create some really wild imagery without having to program specific things. Having the audio input triggering things also makes them happen very quickly - which is part of the dazzling visual effect of lasers.
My current project - and opening in June at the Sudekum planetarium - is Laser David Bowie. AVI created a show years ago ('90s) and it's no longer available. But I have re-created some of the ideas from that old show, as a sort of tip-of-the-hat to that show. All using the 90K and Beyond capabilities of today.
