If you want a free one that does the basics, then this is pretty cool: http://www.macxdvd.com/free-youtube-...ownloader-mac/

If you want something a bit more substantial, buy this: http://www.iskysoft.com/video-converter-mac.html I use this and it's brilliant, you can download, edit and convert between any format in a couple of clicks... And it works with most video feeds...

Thanks Guys. Also, a big 'thank you' to all who have helped me to negotiate the transfer from 'Windoze' to Mac, I couldn't have done it without your help and advice.

Welcome to the world where erratic system crashes and annual reinstalls of everything are just old wives tales

Indeed. I'm already missing the almost daily Windows updates

One other question Mark. Does this ( http://www.iskysoft.com/video-converter-mac.html ) software circumvent copy protection on DVD's. Not that i'm wanting to do anything illegal. I just want to be able to transfer (legally purchased by me) copy protected DVD's onto my iPad so I can watch them when i'm 'out and about'.

    Cheers

I think it does, but I can't be sure... If not, try Mac The Ripper, another free app that seems to get round most copy protection... Allegedly

Glad all is well Jem.. knew you wouldn't regret it! they are awesome machines as long as you don't have to pay to fix them..

On a similar happy note, I've been offered one of these for.. wait for it.. FREE, all because the chap who owns it.. doesn't like it!!

    Gutted.

But bulky for mobile applications but still a chunky powerful machine, plan is to finish "Stepping the rivers" (Official title) on it.. can't wait!!

Have you found "Apple-spacebar" yet ? probably the best bloody command in OSX outside the terminal!

    Cheers,

    Jem,

For video encoding, including DVDs try handbrake, http://handbrake.fr/. Its icon is a little weird, but the application is iconic, excuse the pun. I use all the time and it never lets me down.

    Cheers
