LOL@ Planters. Yep need a heavy lift.

OK, As I thought the cost is too high for the power output. I understand. We all are all spoiled now with the cheap availability and power of diodes.
I am going to add this to my back burner project list and I will post some pics when I get it running.

Thanks for the input. I knew how this was going to turn out but had to ask.

P.s. DTR that is a great price for all of that stuff!

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

Hi Chad I was thinking of a similar project.

I picked up 10 of the 50mW nichia blues with a project like this in mind.

I've got two osram greens on their way too. This project is 2nd or 3rd in line so is a while off yet.

I'm probably coming at it from a similar place as you... Eg wanting to make a porn little nugget of laser gold for the fun of it

I've thought about if there is a market for a super compact premium proofing projector for professionals creating show content. I was sort of picturing them carrying it with them in their luggage and doing last minute Tweeks to shows in hotel rooms ect.

My mini projector that I designed a while back has a single tec 100mW Lasever as its green source.
I know I could replace it with a direct green now and make it lighter and a little more compact but I'm torn.

I'm thinking if it is a proofing projector, shouldn't it behave in a similar way to the show projector? Eg have similar modulation characteristics as the show projector which will surely have DPSS green too? Then again pros who could afford to have and expensive set of scanners tied up in a proofing projector probably use OPSL anyway.

Maybe for most this type of thing is an expensive no mans land where the benefits aren't there for most people.

It might be the domain set aside for us nut jobs to build for ourselves for fun.

On a side note..... I've got to confess, I've got a fetish for Lemo connectors... You know the type they use on expensive test equipment?

What a tragedy these didn't become the ILDA socket standard

Anyway stay in touch I'm on the same page with this madness.

    Cheers
    Kit

I'm on the road for up to two weeks at a time. I need a projector that fits in a single checked bag withy my clothes. I started to make my own, using a GK Case, then decided it was a very expensive box for TSA to kick around. ''

I just bought the Spencers 3D laser for this purpose. The scanners and switching psu are fine, but the diode drivers turn on from ground leakage when I added a 15 Pin Mini Dsub for the ILDA adapter. They are designed to be driven by NMOS, not TTL. So I need to remake it with new drivers. Attempts to fix the existing modulation fets or replace them with NPNs proved fruitless. This is due to the CN5611 chip being very sensitive to sub micro-amp currents, either source or sink.

So I'm sorta game, except I only need the diode blocks and optics.

I also picked up single mode Nichias.

Kit, Hand soldering Lemos? Your insane....

..Actually, the 'P'fessor' could prolly spin some pretty-funny yarns about having 'involuntary RGB-glo dreams'... ...Oh, the tales some of the freelance DSLI-techs could-tell, Lol..

chad - I'll take 2x, at $1250. each, please.. People - you just don't understand that this Man's craftsmanship is.. *artwork*. Here's what he did for me (..with like a bloody-weeks notice, iirc.. )

ID:	38312..I won't 'presume to post-internals', but let me tell you guys, it was / is worth every penny. And if it weren't for accomodating the FM-3s 'footprint', it could probably be about 1/2-as small.. Still in-use, to this day, in a 'desktop-programmer-pj'.. And, soon, it will gain new life with the SM-diode transplants, and the nice DI-520 color.. looking-forward..

    Point-being, consider the 'value' in a) something incredibly-well engineered / precision-machined, (vs plastic / toothpaste / crap-AL..) b) available / serviceable, stateside (vs international-shipping / customs / +15 hr time-zone difference comm's and RTB-policy service-headaches..) and c) tailorable / scalable, as-per quote / need (vs 'you no-like, you go-way').. No thanks...

...'Pricey'? (vs ChOEM chum.. maybe...) BUT - as with most Tech, you '..Pay now, or Pay later'... I for one, would rather save my pennies-up, and buy ONCE, vs take the 'disposable / just-buy another' approach.. What a royal PITA.. And 'chadCo's werk is just.. second to none...

    fwiw..

    +1 for that Jon!

Right back when I saw Chad's red anodised flex mounts I could tell he was a hardware pervert with talent!

Oh the hotel pics.. Ha!! what a corker! room service must have thought some kinky shit was going on in there. Or an alien abduction took place at least.

I'm just picturing the tech face down passed out on his laptop drooling into the keyboard after a hard day.

Looks like he only got as far as setting zone sizes before he flat lined.

That, or he was too distracted with hookers and an eight ball of blow to worry about programming shows.... :P

As recently quoted from another forum member in another thread:

I quote the CDRH...Effective August 20, 1985, all manufacturers or assemblers of Class IIIb or IV laser light shows, displays, devices manufactured or assembled new or used as an operational laser, after that date must have an approved variance before introduction into commerce or continuing their operation. The Food and Drug Administration will take appropriate enforcement action to prevent the manufacture, assembly, introduction into commerce, and continued operation of Class IIIb or IV laser light shows, displays, and devices which fail to comply with the laser product performance standard and with the conditions of the applicable variance.

He'll offer to have Woody give you a call. Jus sayin'.
