    Laser Warning Laser Modification

    Hi Guys and Gals
Is it possible to modify lasers, What I mean to say is if you have a 1 watt laser is there a way to pump up the power to double the brightness or will you just burn it out.
If so how is it done?

you can turn just about anything up and it "could" burn out. As for how its done you turn a pot or replace the driver with a higher power version. Its not easy to just turn up the brightness. Lots of things can keep the laser from wanting to take more power. AKA shits going to burn out. If it was easy to double brightness we would all be buying cheap shit and turning it up.

Yes its possible to overdrive a laser but to do so shortens its life. Its a well known trick allegedly used by certain manufacturers. The penalty can be a laser with anything from a slightly reduced life to one who's life can be hours depending on the laser and level of overdrive.

That's why the very best manufacturers under drive their lasers - it prolongs life.

Ok so what is different in the laser that makes it brighter.

The key to over-driving lasers is temperature control, as Mr. Planters demonstrates quite impressively in this video (you'll have to fast forward a little bit) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8EuZ...ature=youtu.be

Depends on the laser, but - design - thermal management - optical component quality - optical component finish - optical component coating quality - alignment - design life - cleanlyness - sealing - humidity are a few of the variables.

What type of laser are you talking about "turning up" .. gas ion, flashlamp pumped, DPSS, direct injection diode? etc etc ..

if you where thinking about turning up a dpss green dont most of the chinese makers already run them at thier limit and some over drive them, to keep costs down.
if you have experience with a dpss you can swap out the pump diode ,then do a shit load of tweeking and double the power but risk burning the crystal if they cant shift its heat quick enough
    or dopant level to high
