    what are the usual V and A most cheap-chinese drivers need?
    i would like to power a scanner directly from car batteries...

    +/- 24V so you would need 4 car batteries. I think you would have enough current.

    just use an inverter

    i had 2w green (30k scanners) projector running off a 1000w inverter for a gig and it worked great

    i have an inverter but its wasting battery due to the double conversion

    The conversion losses aren't really an issue when you're only talking about a few amps total current draw. You could run your scanners off a single car battery for many hours even with the losses from the inverter. That's got to be easier than trying to carry 4 car batteries around...
