Lumia, when to use.

How would you use Lumia effects in existing shows.

Only in slower dead spots off them, as a back drop?

I havE several different effects wide splatter makes a nice back drop, smaller more colorful and tube types. Also up for suggestions on use of gratings and beam chases. How much is too much etc

I use those effects as a background in the majority of graphics shows. I also tend to use scrim and rear screen projection with the scrim being 12 feet out from the wall. I put the effects basically under the scrim so they have about a 12' throw before hitting the wall behind the graphics. Gives a very nice 3D depth to the whole thing. I use a BL15 Blisslight most of the time during the show but, flip back and forth between things like lumia or other effects projectors like that LD-PD1.

..And - ya know - many of these fx were really quite 'simple'.. as Sir Brian says, '..it's not what you have, it's what you do with it'.. ie: One of my all-time-favs: http://www.laserium.com/gallery/pages/200005.html ..is just an lens-expanded beam, shot thru the kiester of a 'swarvosky' (..or how ever you spell it.. crystal, and the 'focal-length' is-shifted, till the desired 'flower-petals' are achieved... then, scanned-overlays, and... 'majik'....

..Also, the 'transmission burn-wheel' (darker, smoked acrylic..) where, once the beam 'burns-thru', the little melted 'bubble', soon -explodes- into an incredible supernova worm-hole warpy-tunnel.. (technical name.. and you just sit there and stare and stare.. (ps, do be conscious of 'noxious burnt-acrylic fumes', tho.. don't recommend huffing them..

Remember, 'the First Rule of Lumia is... there are-none'.. Experiment, have fun, and.. try *everything*.. A recent (and awesome..) 'discovery' was born out of just-that ('.. what-if I...') but I shall comment no-further, at the moment..
