While this is more expensive at a hair under $200 for open frame and $208 for enclosed, here's a nice little +/- 24v PSU. If we can get 10 orders, they drop to about $150. Granted, it's a lot more expensive than wiring up a couple of single output 24v supplies, but for the electrically challenged like myself, here's a clean, factory built option:

Default Detailed Info on how to use a PC supply for your Projects

    Hi Guys,

Remembering that Steve Milani posted this thought I'd follow up --- I am in the same boat Steve found himself in - wanting to go to one PC power supply for my PJ.
Here is a GREAT resource written by a good friend of mine that talks about (in great detail) how to load the supply to get it to switch on along with some other details:

    http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/s...t=frankenpower

I already did this once to get a cheap XT supply for a battery charging source for my model airplane batteries, all it took was a couple power resistors that summed to 10 ohms at 10 watts and a mod to tell the supply to turn on.

Now, looking at the pic you can see I've been using a homebuilt (analog) +/- V supply for the correction amp, a sola 5V supply for Red.... Unfortunately I don't have +12VDC available for my 1 Watt blue which is why you see that big 'ol battery LOL.

I ran a quick test by using the switching PC supply rather than the old analog and the projection looked ok... So yes, you can use a single supply. I DID have a difficult time finding an older XT power supply though, I noticed the newer ones don't always have -5VDC (not a problem if you need -12VDC instead).

I'll post a report when the conversion is done....

P.S. Model R/C airplanes is a whole 'nuther addiction!

    Hi Jason!

Thanks a lot for precious infos you gave me (us)

I'm just returned (few minutes ago, really!) from Mexico.... A short vacancy looking for warm temperatures, nice beaches and clean waters...
As I'm still under "jet-lag" after more than 14 hours in flight....
Next days I'll try to build the "only-one-PSU" unit.

    Greetings!

Usually if I want to change the hair style I will buy the cheap hair wigs at the online shop so that it will neither cost me a lot and I can reach the goal of change my hair style easily. And just a week before I bought one blonde wigs online and it makes me look better.

^^ LOL .. these spam bots are humorous at times. Usually annoying but occasionally funny when posting something completely arbitrary like that in a power supply thread .

Some people believe to be humorous, instead are just mannerless...

    What about his first post?
I think: the worst way to introduce himself to the community.

Don't get me wrong Steve, I'm not condoning this, I was simply amused for a bit .

It makes me want to go to a tech forum and in the middle of a highly technical discussion, post something like "When my underwear gets dirty, I like to wash it in Gain for that springtime fresh smell coming from my pants"

(Of course I wouldn't ever do that) ..

    No problem mate.
I understood what your words meant for.
You wasn't the target of my reply-post

My post was directed to "Mr. Spam" (see post #15)
For sure I am not use to read this sort of "foolish-humor"... Maybe I haven't fully understood what that phrases want mean for (each people has its own way to make humor...). Maybe I am little susceptible too... My apologies.

Anyway... Christmas is approaching, so we all have to be kind each other... then...the case is closed. Definitely.

(p.s. I use double-face (reversible) underpants... This way I can go til when Summer will be! )
