WOW! Those pics look *so* much better than the ones I took! I guess that's the difference between my cheap-ass digital camera and a Nikon with a $2000 lens...

Is that BabyAnne in the second pic, in the DJ booth? Just wondering - I never got a look at her that night.

ekk, those pictures you posted. You dont find any shame in hitting people directly in the face even if it is legal over there.

    Wow.

Not at all. Because for every show we do, we use own judgement about what is safe and what isn't. If it's too bright for us, then it's too bright for everyone and we adjust the zone's "BAM", size or overall laser power of the laser to suit.

It may be a far call from carefully measuring every single frame for MPE compliance, but until there exists a way to do that that is both cost and time effective for every possible combination and permutation of live laser output (ie, infinite possibilities when using something like Live PRO), then we have no choice. If we don't audience scan here, we don't have a show. Full stop.

We have already knocked back shows because we don't believe them to be safe. It's not easy saying no to hundreds or even thousands of dollars. And for the borderline cases, we strive to make it as safe as possible and go from there. From our experience, we know pretty damn quickly if we are scanning with too much power, and thats before there is anyone in the venue.

Pick it to bits as you are most likely to do in your follow up response, but this method has not failed us (or any of the other local laserists) in the years that we have been running laser shows. It's "how we roll'' here.

If the strict environment in which you guys have to operate over there means that you view this as "shameful", then so be it. But just because something is a certain way for you, it doesn't mean it has to be that way for the rest of the world. Remember, its YOU GUYS who drive on the wrong side of the road....

People have been crowd scanning here for many years. People have gotten away with crowd scanning with 40 watt pulsed yags, and static (not scanned) beams into crowds. I don't agree with it THAT, and think THATS shameful, and we strive to ensure that the show material we consider is dangerous, such as non scanned beams etc are kept away from audience areas.

I do believe that something needs to happen to formalise the industry somewhat here, even something as simple as forced education through licensing, for example.

What you should be worried about is not the skilled and experienced operators who scan crowds with lasers (and respect their power), but the no brain dj's who buy a 1.5 watt standalone green cirrect laser from CDS and have no idea it can light cigarettes....
