Default The one book you should read this year.

Read "The Female Brain" by Louann Brizendine, MD. I found it very informative. If you are a father with a young daughter, buy it now. Nicely covers the built in changes the human female brain goes through nearly continuously. Explains why a lot of emotional things happen, backed up with the scientific references. If you have decent reading comprehension, this is the closest thing you'll ever get to a "Owners Manual". Nicely compares and contrasts the similar changes in the human male. She decompiles the "source code" in a enjoyable manner.

Parental guidance advised, however. This is not exactly PG13.

Is that possible? I didn't even think Deep Blue could decompile the female brain! Any possibility of debugging???? :P Thanks for the recommend. I may check this out.

According to how I read it, The debugging period was back at age 6-7-8 where the genetic program watches how her Mommy dealt with Daddy.
Strong tie in between how her parents related at that age and how she relates with you.

The chapter on Mate Selection was down right scary.

It actually makes a lot of sense given that the most confident and well adjusted women come from stable homes where mom and dad interacted respectfully with eachother.

Thank you for the recommendation, Steve! A copy is on the way to my house now. As a stay-at-home Dad for a one year old girl, I need to know as much about the developing female brain as I can fit into my miniscule male brain!

I could have done with that book 8 years ago when our twin daughters turned 13 and went totally mental.

It got so bad my wife and I considered running away from home!

    Another good read is http://www.amazon.com/Men-Mars-Women.../dp/0060574216

I note even the Bible is sparse on the "Teenage Daughter" info.

Steve, I'm glad you indeed turned to some more "civilized" literature, to learn about our world.
The bible seems to have an ambiguous interpretation of "fatherly love" .

If you daughter decides to prostitute herself it is OK for you to sentence her to death.

And it is also OK to sell you daughter as a slave.

    exodus 21:7 leviticus 21:9

I know you are being factitious, however...

Exodus is old Testament, Leviticus is a book of rules for biological survival in the Desert, some of which still apply in the modern world. I would argue a New Testament Jesus Christ after the Covenant.... Would not approve of mistreating nor stoning the wayward daughter. Look at how he treats the Woman at the Well. If I remember it is roughly: "You have had Seven Husbands... Now go forth and Sin NO More". The story of the Prodigal Son might more or less apply with the modern Daughter.

I'm sometimes glad I'm not a father, rarely, but some times. This is why I read the Brizendine book, and it is by no means scientifically/politically correct.

I would also argue, after watching a friend go through difficulties with his daughter's teen pregnancy, that arranged marriages might be poised for a comeback... The shotgun wedding almost occurred, only for him to find out later the declared father was not the biological father... After he forced the declared father to go to a good trade school.

One way or another, 21st Century Women and our permissive society are a real hazardous threat to mental health.
