Title says it all. I may or may not have a rental car. Will mostly be free long after business hours. Visiting local Electronic surplus places also a plus.

I should have rented the space under my name for advertising.
When I still could have...
There is Al Lasher's Electronics. Not as big as some of the suplus stores in the South Bay and it closes early, but its something. If you can't find what you are looking for there, you can always to go RadioShack down the street.
Being someone who lived there for a couple of years, I can't think of much off the top of my head. I spent most of my time studying, in class, or working. With that said I find the campus to be beautiful and worthy of a walk.
There are many music venues in the vicinity. There is the the Freight and Salvage, the Jazzschool, Ashkenaz... just to name a few of the smaller ones.
If you like coffee you can try a cup of Philz Coffee.
There is a wide selection of food in Berkeley. If you are in the mood for a particular cuisine, let me know and I will try and come up with some suggestions.
There are plenty of used book stores in Berkeley. If you are looking for something, it wouldn't hurt to take a gander.
As for people, Picasso (from this forum, not the painter) lives near by. You can try getting in contact with him. As for me, I don't live there anymore... I should probably change my profile... but I will be in the area tomorrow picking up a friend from the airport.

I'm out of town most of this month....
Sorry to hear that, perhaps another time...
Also is there a really, really, good hardware store someplace just away from the gate at One Cyclotron Road? You know, the little "unapproved vendor" Mom and Pop places that have everything??? Like tiny metric screws and 1/2" ID braided hose? As I travel the country I find that "Big Box" hardware stores vary greatly. Yet little family owned places and ACE stores usually are a good bet for the small stuff I need.

Steve, I don't know when you are going and so the chance that something interesting is happening here is low, but years ago we met a group of post grad astronomers looking for employment when the astronomy unemployment numbers were "astronomical'. They did something gutsy and formed a working group, raised funds and after locating a promising site built an observatory as well as research program. The site is extraordinary. Located on Chew's ridge with routine sub-arc second seeing and a high percentage of clear nights, you might want to look them up. They also probably know where the best surplus electronics sources are in the area.
