Right I've taken some pics of the block.
Believe it or not I have a Sony 7.2M pixel camera that wont take a decent close up of the block, these
pics were taken on the wifes phone

That was better! Cool
use macro for closeups!

Looking at the specs for the diodes it looks as though I need to have the right diode as the output is linear after the starting current.
The 2W diode starts output at 1A and reaches 2W at 3A, whereas the 4W only starts to output at 2A, reaching 4W at 6A.
I've emailed CNI to ask what pump diode they use, I can keep my fingers crossed.
Failing that I will measure the current on my good head to see what range of current that uses.

Well, digging up an old thread here.
After having my gear nicked in July I decided to have a play with an old head.
I ended up getting a diode of Kevin (Junktronix) and put it in the head, at the time I only got ~20mW out of it so it ended up in my "todo" box.
Over the past few days I've realigned the diode and got it up to just short of 50mW.
I then followed the procedure in the CNI OEM Driver Settings thread.
I didn't want to mess with the diode current as I cannot remember the power of the diode, IIRC it was a 1.2W.
Anyway, with nearly 2 days of tweeking the TECs it seems it is pretty stable at about 140mW, not bad for what I was thinking was junk.
The only problem is I've had to ditch the IR filter as the coating on it appeared to had started rotting or something, not surprising with it being stuck in a garage for 2 years though.
