Default How good really is spaghetti software?

I currently I have a little laser scanner/projector that consist of 1 100mW lab style laser and galvos which I can connect to my computer so I can "tell" the galvos how to move. I currently use iShow software and we all know that its nothing special. I actually haven really used my scanner/projecter since I got it working the first day because what was I going to do look through a bunch of animations and thats all?

The reason I decided I wanted to build this in the first place was to have it synced to music and have a beam show and such. Obviously with iShow I cannot do that. I am pretty sure I read that spaghetti has a feature where you can pick and .mp3 file and it will use that .mp3 file to create the beam show. Is this true?

Would it be worth it to buy spaghetti? I have been envisioning in my head for a while now that I would sync certain songs to the laser and it would be epic, like I rave I guess? Maybe its cooler in my head than it will be irl but let me know what you think.

    Thanks

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

I don't believe (and Gary will probably confirm or deny this), that Spaghetti has a feature where you load up an mp3 and it creates a beam show for you. The only thing I know of that does something like that is Quickshow or BEYOND's "virtual laserjockey".

It doesn't take the mp3 directly from your computer. You have to have a microphone (webcam mic is fine) to "listen" to the music and it will change cues in a number of ways based upon the beats. It's adjustable in terms of how quickly the beam cues change (every 2 beats, 4 beats, 8 beats, 16 beats... etc.) and whether it plays your cues in order or, randomly. I tried it for the first time recently and it was the first time I really had a chance to walk out at look back to see what the guests were actually seeing.

I actually took a line out signal from the DJ's mixer to plug into the mic jack on my laser computer and it worked fairly well.

Other than that, with most any other laser software, (LSX, Spaghetti, Quickshow, Moncha, Fiesta etc.,) you can create your own show to a piece of music like you described but, it IS time consuming and takes a certain knack for software that I don't possess yet. You build the show with your own cues and effects along a timeline that goes along with the music.
