    Default I break him...

Went to the shops today and gave the car a few squirts to 6500rpm in damp conditions as you do. Boom. Good bye gearbox..... These Mercedes 5 speeds are supposed to be good for 500 horses..... All caught on my traffic crash cam.

    I think just bad luck.
    No tuning on the Mercedes?
Otherwise i suppose it must be the torque (somewhere around 600/700nm) which killed the transmission instead of the 500 horses.....

It's not a Merc. It's a Euro pack Chrysler. They have Merc box, diff, brakes, ABS and ESP.

    Yep, it's been souped.

same trans as in the 99 jag xjr? Blew that one a few times. It is the only trans I have ever broken. I blown rear ends and twisted axles and broken u-joints but that benz trans was the only thing to ever give me trouble over and over. We only ran about 10psi on the high end too. The motor was a ford.

    Souped because 500bhp wasn't enough

Not really surprising. I've seen a lot of snapped metal from people being too rough on their cars.

Also, not the best idea to post that video and take ownership. Unlikely that anyone who cares will see it but it wouldn't be the first time if they do.

Muscle cars are like lasers. You never have enough power.

My last muscle car was an 81 Holden with a Chev box. I lost count how many axles, diffs and boxes I destroyed.... Thats why I upgraded to Mopar

All sorted! It wasn't a hardware failure after all, it was the computer saying "you dumb ass". Connected my OBDII tuning and diagnostic tool and read out the error codes (many) and cleared them all. Woosh I have drive to the back wheels again. Imagine what a mechanic would have charged? "Your trans is shot mate, $5000".

Error codes included "Insufficient money spent on repairs this year", "Your a tool" and "Better I disable drive than you take out a tree". Bloody computers.... Spoil all the fun.

Little disconcerting watching that video when you live in the US. We drive on the wrong side of the road here.

Having just gotten my first real performance car last week, it's also a little disconcerting hearing about people blowing tranny's, differentials etc. Not a muscle car by any means but the 3.8L Hyundai Genesis Coupe w/6 speed manual is still very much a "play" car.

2 of my kids drive Hyundais. 4 valves per cylinder, tons of power and cheap to run. Still nothing beats a big V8
