Put a photodiode in a 1 milliwatt beam. Get a comb with tapered teeth spacing, 3$ at Walmart. Move the comb in the beam. Far, Far, Far more musical.

Ha! That was the first thing I ever did with a laser. A HeNe with a microphone plugged into a modulation input and a photodetector at the other side of the room was demonstrated in my high school physics class. I whipped out my pocket comb and sawed the beam in a musical way to everyone's delight. It was the first laser I ever saw. I was hooked.
