so, just wondering - i want some great software (akin to fiesta.net or quickshow), affordable (less than $600) that will let me export MY creations to SD card for playback. any recommendations?

anyone know where to get a demo version of LSX, it seems to be the most promising of the ones i've used/read about so far.

LSX + Ild Sos (basic version = $189 including ild sos). It's more aimed towards hobbyists, but it's a powerful package. It can output ilda files, though getting a DAC is the most sensible thing to do really. If you don't like Ilda cables, you can get an Ethernet DAC (such as the Etherdream) so you can run ethernet cables instead. Conversion to ilda will always imply quality loss (optimisation settings don't get saved, though you can solve that with ild sos). Also, the strong point of LSX is the dynamically updated expressions, meaning you can use live input from various sources (midi, dmx, microphone, osc, mouse position, joystick) to alter variables (amplitude or frequency of a sine wave, position, size, colour, intensity, whatever you come up with). Of course you lose this when converting to ilda.

    Not a seller, just a fan :P

Glad my help is no longer needed, Adobe Illustrator was giving me a hard time tracing the image :P

Edit: ah looks like you got the same conclusion... AFAIK the only way to get a demo version is to mail drlava, but he is a busy man.

    Nice VJ.

I was thinking about using Quickshow which has Quick Sketch but no, no .ilda output.

I also have LaserCam which can trace and output but never tried it with an image. Not sure if LSX can do this?

No, LSX can't do this. You need to load the image into a program like inkscape or adobe illustrator, export as svg and load into ild sos (which is included in lsx).

VJ: care to give a bit more information?

colouredmirrorball: I know it would be best to use a DAC, and that the ILDA format loses information when saving to it. I just need a DAC that either has an SD slot or internal memory to hold my shows. I simply cannot leave a computer connected to the laser.

I have looked at LSX site, and they have a dac - RIYA Basic Multibus Controller. It has both ethernet and SD, seems like a great deal to add it to a purchase of LSX.

For a house party, this should include everything I need. I just want to get a hold of a demo of LSX first to see it's user interface.

    Ideas, suggestions, pointers, all welcomed...

    Thanks again...
