Default Time for some fun, Avatar Challange

    Hi all

Spec has kindly set the avatars so we can use Animated GIFs

Which i thought would be cool.... we can now make moving laser based Avatars ..... now it is a bit of a challange as the maximum gif size is 60k or 100 x 100 pixels..... but thats the fun bit keeping it to a size that is not destracting or wastes server bandwith

so i have started by using a rather cheesy one of myself

PS those that think its imposible to have impressive animations in 60k
please check out the attachment .... its a DEMO written in 64k .... i sent it to some friends a while ago and they were convinced that it was just a link thatvideo streamed but thats NOT TRUE ..... at the end of the demo they explain the compression ratios and how much data is compressed

    all the best ... KARL

    I didn't know you were a demo-scene guy!

Ever check out .kkreiger? Full 3d First person shooter in 96KB.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.kkrieger

*Really* impressive in my book. From what I was reading a while ago, they were aiming for 64KB to meet a party rule but they couldnt get the shadows and physics "engine" to both fit in the alloted space. Funny when you think about the fact a single wall texture in doom3 can be in excess of a MB

    Question

Damn, now you got me thinkin... I have a few "dancing bear mots I could string together... Whats a good gif anomator prog?

That demo's pretty old. One of my teachers showed it in my 3D modling class in college. Blew us away it was only 64k. It'd be a neat trick for it to stream to a computer not hooked to the net...

The gif animator i used is a shareware ( 30 day free trial )
called "MovieGear4" you can download it from here

    http://www.moviegear.com/

it seems quite good and it will optimise the frames to make the unwanted bits transparent and makes the gif file size as small as possible

    hope this helps

Not laser based, but mines something I did for a girl who wanted one for a LiveJournal where the limit is 40 KB.
