    Default Got a SP-107 He-Ne last weekend.

I saw an ad in craigslist a couple weeks ago for a guy selling a he-ne. I looked at the ad & the pic showed an open frame 107 head and power supply running.
He also had some mirrors and mirror mounts. Price- 100 dollars.

I called him and left my # He called back a week and a half later. I figured it was gone by this time tho.
I drove the two hours to San Jose and took a look at the head and PS. It was dusty and dirty, old and low power but worth every penny.
I brought it home, powered it up and pressed the mirror mounts front and back. Each time the power jumped up a lot. I adjusted the nuts on the mounts and the power went up by alot. I cleaned the output mirror and the beam cleared right up. Over the weekend I very carefully washed the head. Now this head looks like it just came off the assembly line at Spectra Physics.
I placed it next to my other 107 and powered them both all day Sunday.
Nothing like glass and plasma making nice colors! Its visible, and very hands on. Its a part of why Im interested in lasers.Click image for larger version.

Nice score! Who sells lasers on CL? Don't forget to tweak the bore alignment once you've peaked power by walking in the end mirrors. I sometime see an extra 5mW from this (and a cleaner beam).

Nice score! I should check craigslist more often...

Laser (the acronym derived from Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation) is a spectacular manifestation of this process. It is a source which emits a kind of light of unrivaled purity and intensity not found in any of the previously known sources of radiation. - Lasers & Non-Linear Optics, B.B. Laud.

I know when I read this I thought to myself "Why don't I have a script that scrapes CL for local listings including the word 'laser' in them?"
