    Someone posted this on alt.lasers some time ago - its pretty impressive and scary. IIRC the poster said that the arm swinging should not have had power to it as I don't suspect this is a regular and desired effect in normal operation. I guess tho. that they knew it was gonna happen otherwise why the audience and VT.

    Yes, it's a disconnect switch opening with a defective arc suppressor. A description, and why it's doing what it's doing, can be found here, along with other unintended high-voltage "mishaps" (the video of the substation transformer going up is a good one ;-) ).
