    Default Laserscope question

I'm working on using a laserscope for a laser cutting project. The connections to the to the ALE supply are straight forward enough. What I'm trying to figure out are the connections to the Q-switch driver. Does the Q-switch driver pulse when pins 4 and 7 are pulled to +5v and pin 8 is tied to the supply ground via 200ohm? Does it otherwise run CW?

    Thanks in advanced,
    Ed

ED, Which Q-Switch driver do you have? Please reply in a PM.

There are three modes, set by a pair of binary lines.

    For most drivers:

Hi RF Fully Q Switched , driver self pulses at rep rate.
LO RF, RF set to a level that holds off lasing, no pulsing, default mode on most drivers.
    NO RF. Laser runs CW.

Inputs are not pure TTL, I'll explain in a PM.

For various reasons, We do NOT discuss Laserscope operations here. Most of that comes from the thread resulting from one sick puppy who ruined it for the rest of us. Your pin numbers seem wrong. Please PM/Phone me if you have further questions.

    UPDATE:

We modded the Lscope. This was for short term prototype use in industry. The Safety equipment was kept, reinstalled and supported.

The published Q-switch connection data (At least whats on the net) is tragically wrong.

It took a team of four very skilled guys to do this and yet have the safety systems up, in less then two full days.

    Hi Ed
If you want to modify an old Laserscope for engraving forget the Z fold cavity and just use the rear optic, laser and first primary optic this will give you a solid 60w of 1064nm and TEM 00 mode.
You don't need the Q switch to attain this.
Run the Ale PSU in constant current mode.
If you run into problems drop me an email to clive.davie@btinternet.com and I'll work through it with you.

    Hi Clive,
The unit we were working on actually has the L fold cavity for 1064 switched by a mirror. And yes, it can make a lot of 1064! There are some specific requirements for this system that make green and Q-switching a necessity. At this point the laser is functioning well and we are tweaking the beam delivery system.
